Max Clifford major line of work is keeping people out of the paper rather than the other way round, or though he does work for Simon Cowell.

Not sure what there is to laugh about to be honest.

Woman with mental health problems gets thrown under spotlight of the world media and has trouble dealing with it.

I hope she recovers and probably best the media leave her alone for a while, but I doubt they will. They've got a lot to answer for to be honest, trawling round trying to find out whether she was a virgin on not.

I'm not laughing at all. If it's genuine then all sympathy and best wishes to her. Unfortunately in this celeb driven, media hyped world we now live in, there are a lot of people making a living off getting people into the limelight for whatever reason, and it makes people cynical as hell.

she has also been blessed with a disability which will make it incredibly difficult for her to benefit from the singular ability she possesses

Says who?

It's being presumptuous to suggest that her new found wealth and fame won't lead to wonderful experiences she may otherwise never have had the opportunity to do.

It also means she can now afford the best treatment there is, before she probably got just the bare minimum.

I have absolutely no doubt that there is fixing / publicity stunts etc... but surely all of this is irrelevant.

What is most important is the true victim in this - Boyle. Her learning difficulties, sudden situation, initial reception etc have all already been mentioned. I don't know how many people can empaphise with this but can you imagine never having any true best friends, never being recognised as really good at anything, struggling throughout school etc and still not grasping things 12 yera olds etc can get. Then suddenly you get a bit of recognition.

You got laughed at but you proved them wrong - people said you weren't just good at something but exceptional. From living on your own with a cat, socially awkward and unemployed, you get all this publicity. From rarely talking to other people suddenly you're on the Oprah show in front of millions of cameras. You don't know if people truly think you're talented, or if they're taking the piss. But finally you find the strength to believe and start enjoying it. Who can blame you? Right. Then emerge 'haters' people who are fueled with jealousy (Lily Allen for instance), people who would have hated you regardless because people love being cynical and the newspapers are turning everything you do without any ability to reply.

From what I've read, she used o get bullied etc throughout childhood and was a bit of a recluse, so i'm guessing she built up a wall then as soon as she let it down all this happened. Meanwhile she has the papers on her back, Cowell whispering in her ear, has publicity agents etc sniffing around telling them what to do and in the nbext week you have a massive final.

I'm lucky enough not to have been in this situation but clsoe family members have and were absolutely shattered. Though obviously, that was to a much lesser extent - no papers, no public as such jsut them and the peopel involved. And they were lucky enough to have a very clsoe-knit family.

I can't begin to imagine what Boyle feels like with people laughing about her being admitted to hospital, but maybe before throwing stones from your own little cushy situation think about all the little thing that you make into such dramas in your lfit. We all do it.

This episode underlines the fact that showbusiness is a profession, and a business that not everyone has the character for.
Talented or not, this woman is displaying an incapability to cope. Perhaps coming into the deep-end at her age, or from her background or whatever it is, she can't handle it.

If there's a kind way for her to bow out I don't know - but I suspect the whole thing is going to harm her in the long run. Perhaps she'll lose some friends, disappoint some people, or just collapse from the strains on a regular basis.

It just ain't looking good.

Wonderful post

One other thing - there ARE way more talented professional people out there in showbiz. There are singers with powerful voices in church choirs, opera houses, or in karaoke bars. This broad looks like a schoolma'am and that's the bit that amazes people and has gained her a lot of attention over many operatic chanteuses.
It's very silly, and all appeals to a rather pathetic slice of the general public; people that cannot go out and find a music they like and have to have it foisted on them by television.

For the most part a good post, but you're still missing a vital bit of info in all of this.

She CHOSE to do it.

You are talking as if she was forced onto that stage at the start.

You really are an irredeemably inhumane & cynical wanker aren't you? Hope I never have the misfortune of being in earshot of you. Live on your own do you?

:tosser:

If you are stupid enough to be manipulated by the rep top press then I also hope I never have the misfortune of meeting you.

It's television starring morons, made for morons. That can be the only reason you people lap it up, because you can relate to the spazzmos on the show.

You're right, she did choose to audition. And can you imagine what courage that probably took? She went on stage and was being laughed at, yet she still managed to sing. Then as I say one thing led to another and who can blame her for wanting to feel good about herself.

that is moronic

her learning disabilities are a matter of record and if you cared to read up on what that means you will understand that there is no treatment that will enable her to "get better" as you imply.

she will always make social gaffes
she will always misunderstand or misinterpret
she will never realise what it is she does or doesn't do that makes her not quite fit into any situation

Chaperoning will allow her to function sufficiently for others to benefit but does that make her less deserving of some empathy

Those 'morons' who won didn't really strike me as moronic? In fact the 10 year old with the cool hair has probably done more with his life than you have already.

Read what you write yourself before you call anything moronic.

That could apply to 90% of the population.

Hell it sounds like George W Bush.

It's YOU who is the problem, as all you do is focus on her issues.

Everyone else is focusing on her talents that make her memorable.

What do you think she'd prefer?

Someone who keeps harping on about hows she's not all there or someone who keeps telling her about her wonderful talents.

For what it's worth, I thought Diversity deserved to win. Susan Boyle only sang two songs in the whole competition which she probably already knew anyway.

Diversity had to create three completely new routines, one at 5 days notice, choreograph them to perfection and perform them in the knowledge that another similar streetdance act were their man competition. They did this and were absolutely magnificent on saturday.

Deserved winners.

Hiney, for a middle aged man you have a worryingly keen interest in Britain's Got Talent! I'm not saying that only younger viewers and housewives should be eligible to watch it, that would be outrageous and narrow minded of me and it wouldn't be my place to make that call. I'm just saying that at your age it's an utterly unacceptable and unhealthy thing to be consumed by and you shouldn't watch it ever again. Next year when it's on I'll expect you to spend your time building the Titanic from matchsticks or watching some Out of Town's with Jack Hargreaves on VHS.

This is all getting a bit nasty. Anyway, the reason this story is front page news is that the final was watched by eighteen million people which is the largest TV audience for some years. Poor old Susan was supposed to win and she didn't. Face a fact, given her problems she had a lot of courage just taking part and it's the press and media that hyped her up.

Laugh at them if you like but not this unfortunate woman because however much she might make will she be able to really enjoy it ?

When you've had depression then try taking the piss.

Mental illness didn't stop that Rowetta (ex-Happy Monday's backing singer) who was on one of Cowell's shows a few years back furthering her singing career. Last I heard she was in a West End show I think. Paul Potts was handicapped by his looks but it didn't stop him either. Why do we look at people's limitations rather than on the positives they possess?
