I'm playing devil's advocate there a bit. I have massive respect for folk like Liz, They work tirelessly on many fronts, not seeking any plaudits or recognition for their endeavours. Liz, in particular, has ensured that Albion fans can get to Albion games everywhere for many years. The value of this can not be under-estimated.

i do not wish to get into a luzzing contest with you,you are correct that Liz has served the Albion well over the years but we have a massive growing fan base,and a season ticket monopoly which is virtually unheard of given our status,Liz used to supply albion fans with travel to away games now you get the same deal with the added bonus of a pushy gay agenda......that is balls in my book

Well join then. It doesn't cost much and all the details are on their website. A lot of people these days don't join these things because they may be asked to actually do something.

If that's some sort of dig then it's aimed at the wrong person, I have enough to do running SDU and there's not much I can do from here anyway. I was never a member in the UK but I still went on all the protests, was at the sit in at Wycombe amongst other things.
According to Thunder Bolt there is no joining fee, if that's the case then maybe they should contact the club and get the listing changed to show this.

Season ticket holders 23,000
NSC members 18,000
NSC active members 6,300
Supporters club members 300

So which would you say is more representative of the Albion's fan base now? It certainly isn't the supporters club. Average age 60 possibly?

I was going to post something similar. Like others I've got nothing against the main/official/oldest (delete as appropriate) Supporters' Club. If people want to belong to a formal structure like that then fine. I do think in this day and age that, like paper fanzines, their time has largely passed but that doesn't meant to say they shouldn't exist. However this IS the modern era and as a supporters' group, despite the fact it has not formal organisation, NSC is FAR more representative of fan opinion. Fans aren't some homogenous group who all think the same and all want the same and the diversity of opinion on NSC reflects that. But even that diversity can coalesce into clear strands of thought at times (Do we want Garcia sacked no? Hell, no! What a stupid question!), so when the media want a quote from 'Brighton Supporters' they can do a lot worse than come to Bozza as opposed to their usual suspect.

That being the case why did the supporters club go direct to the FA having completed their tick chart about homophobia as opposed to discuss with the club first ?

However if that is true my ambivalence towards the Supporters' Club vanishes. That is inexcusable, they don't represent us. Hopefully the FA just disregarded it as the irrelevant rantings of a few old women.

Several years ago at York a prominent member of the supporters club (who I won't name as every time I do I get told she isn't on here to defend herself) suggested to us that we shouldn't be in their supporters bar as we weren't in the supporters club party (i.e. gone on her coach). With an attitude like that is it any wonder that they've only got a handful of members?

Bingo!!!!!!! and she won't reply to emails if it dosen't concern her little group.

I accept that; you don't represent 'Brighton fans' any more than the woman who runs Mumsnet represents 'Mothers'. That's actually a good thing, a quote from "Darren, owner of the hugely-popular NorthStandChat messageboard" lets it be known that you're not speaking in any official capacity, whereas someone from the Brighton Supporters Club always gives the impression that they're imparting the duly-considered opinion of Brighton fans.

And using my previous example you could always start by saying "Well judging by the posts on NSC most Brighton fans think it's far too early to give an opinion on Oscar Garcia."

I don't feel the need to have anyone speak on my behalf to give my opinion on any topic about our club.
If the club want a general idea of how supporters feel about the 'current' situation then they'd soon get an idea from NSC.
Reading between the lines is something that whoever did read some of the threads on here would take some doing though

Does anyone actually want to change the supporters club? To me their only purpose is to ferry people to away games. Most folk seem able to do without their help so even if it was the greatest club in the world I still wouldn't join as I've no interest on going to football on a coach where I couldn't have a drink. Its a shame for people who would like to be involved that it is such a closed shop but quite frankly those people are better off without them IMO.

Put yourselves in the position of a journalist, they want a quick quote from a 'fan' from the Albion, the logical thing to do is to head for the Supporters Club. It isn't for me, but it represents its members well and Liz has been a risk taker over the years running coaches up and down the country, so fair play to her.
