I can see their point but on the other hand they don't tend to have high presure jobs. Against that though is the fact that its a dirty job and someone has to do it. If I'd paid into a pension fund I'd be peeved if Tony Blair and his buddies tried to screw me over.

Trouble is, middle England who have jobs and cars can take their own rubbish to the tip at a pinch, what do they care ?

They are trying to force a different deal onto the poorer paid and weaker supported public workers whilst the teachers, doctors, police, firemen, etc are allowed to retain their exisiting pension rights. Why don't they try and change the pensions for ALL public sector workers?

Which would be the right thing to do. It seems to me that all that needs to happen is that the rule change is only applied to new members of the scheme.

These schemes were set up when life expectacy was lower and birthrates were higher. They should have been ended for all public sector workers and will be when the tories get back in soon.

the reason pensions are shit is because everyone is retiring EARLY...

I agree for existing workers, their employment contract should be honoured, but new workers to council, should have to work longer.

Age of life has got longer, yet the retirement age has either stayed the same, or dropped to 60 or whatever in the public sector. Doesn't make sense to me!

If you look at the size of local authorities and also health authorities, you would soon realise that if they were floated on the stock market, they would comprise some of the UK biggest companies.

Hackney my local council has a budget of £700m and employs 8,000 staff.

No pressures. Bollocks.

Kent CC, Birmingham are even bigger.

People deliver services in the public services that can AND DO mean life or death!

Not just making a few extra quid. That's not pressure that's playing AT A JOB.

Pensions are a time bomb. People are living older and the age needs to go up across the board, though I do have sympathy that they seem to be picked on first.
