[Albion] Summer clear out

I wouldn’t focus on the clear out- some of those names may give us 10-15 useful games as back up. The problem is the players we don’t have, not the ones we have! January was rank incompetence by the Albion board given the known wear and tear on the squad

Understand the point but I think football has changed now. Many more players break into senior football at early ages and therefore are ‘experienced’ well before their 30’s.

To explain my point. Tonight was Phil Foden’s 264th senior game for City and he is only 23. He’s not a good he’s an experienced player. Obviously he’s world class and way above our level but just using him as the example as we played them tonight.

There are plenty of players across Europe in their mid-twenties with bags of experience. We just need to stump up the money to get them in.
Stumping up the money being the difficult part. We didn't do it when we lost our two best CMs.
No reason we will start now.
We've invested shit loads in potential. That's where we are at.

We already have one of the biggest squads in the league (thank goodness given our injuries), if we don't get rid of a decent amount of players but do sign some we will have a Chelsea style squad.

Milner and Lallana will probably retire.
Webster and Lamptey aren't durable enough unfortunately I can see us trying to transfer them out.
Rushworth will come in to replace Steele as our number 2 goalie I'd have thought.
Fati returned to Barcelona.
Veltman looks like he might need to play at a less intense level now, perhaps back to the Netherlands.
Gross might want to go back to Germany, I'm sure we'd keep him for another year though if we can.

I can see it being quite a busy summer, I'm sure we'll lose at least one that we don't want to as well, Pedro or Mitoma most likely.

At least the injuries we've had this season has meant that our fringe players have had plenty of minutes and will have accelerated their progression.

We need to clear numbers and wages, to make way for the first team additions we patently need.

I suspect Hinshelwood, Pedro and Mitoma will all move on this summer.

But boy our audited accounts for 2024/25 will make great reading :fishing:

Steele, Lallana, Webster, Lamptey maybe Moder. Then at least one of the following to be hawked around Mitoma, Estupinan or Ferguson

As much as I will get slated for this, all of the above plus dunk. We need a new leader on the pitch

I’ve been wondering about Dunk recently. He’s been incredible, but this season hasn’t been his greatest. I can’t imagine a modern Brighton team without him and yet I worry that because of the physical nature of how he plays, it must get tougher every year.

I’d like to see him fading out rather than stopping, JPvH is developing into a worthy replacement, we just need to bring a youth player through to be the next JPvH.

For me outgoing would be:

-Undav (buy option circa £10m)
-Dahoud (buy option circa £10m)
-Fati back to Barca
-Milner retire
-Lallana retire
-Veltman
-Lamptey
-Moder
-Steele
-Webster
-Sarmiento? Wouldn’t mind either way.

-Peupion
-Ofiah
-Moran
-Leonard
-there are probably a few other youngsters or loan returns that will be sold

That’s just the start of it in my opinion. I can see even more than that going

I do really think we need quite a large overhaul and refresh. Would like to see quite a few changes as we do carry a lot of deadwood. We lack genuine quality, physicality and players in their prime years in a lot of areas.

Unless we make some serious changes, I think we will have a real struggle next season. Players I’d move on:

Milner
Lamptey
Webster
Gilmour
Moder
Fati (obviously)
Mcgill
Peupion
Undav
Sima
Leonard
Weir
Turns
Dahoud
Alzate
Sarmiento

There are probably some under 21’s we can move on too.

That should free up further funds in addition to the profits we’ve already made to make some proper signings in addition to Osman and any other loaned out/under 21 players we think can step up.

I would keep Steele as third choice and add Lallana to coaching staff and play him occassionally when needed as a late sub. He can’t start now.

You gotta love these threads. Of all the players mentioned, only Lallana and Milner are out of contract this summer (Albion have an option on Milner).

Are we just going to make these other players disappear?

The clear out includes sales.

Albion ….. please don’t exercise the Milner option.
