there really is no reconciliation between our two societies. i think it would be best for everyone if we let them stone and behead all they like, and let us get on with our nutty liberal democracy. what pisses me off is militant islamists who want the whole world to abide by their backward views. they've already conquered much of the desert (wahay!). can't they be happy with that?

the punishment is abhorrent, but i think she's foolish (sad though it is, because she's clearly a compassionate woman) to go and teach in that shithole in the first place.

She should be got out of Sudan at once, diplomatically or otherwise with as little fuss as possible.

Crowds of men gathering outside the prison where she is being held?

Lashes for an innocent mistake such as this? Get her out now.

Meanwhile in Dubai DJ legend Grooverider has been incarcerated for bringing a couple of joints worth and some hardcore DVDs into the country. Looking at a 4 year stretch I'd reckon.

She deserves the lashes, for being as thick as pig-shit.

ANYONE knows you don't go around societies like that, especially when teaching abroad, and thumb your nose at the name of their god.
She's a TEACHER ffs, and I bet she's handed out a few lashings herself.
Let the whipping begin, and teach her a simple, inexpensive lesson of her own.

This is Sudan we're talking about. Considering what they're prepared to turn a blind eye to in Darfur, I can't imagine they are going to give two shits about the fate of one middle-aged Englishwoman.

You really wonder if there is any point in crossing the worlds of the west with the ancient Muslim world.

I guess the real problem is where we import many thousands ( I know not every Muslim ) of like minded people from their world to ours.

We fund their City Mosques and then look aghast as their Imans spout vile propaganda to young 2nd generation Asians, who many have empathy with 'Twin Towers' & 'London Bombings' etc.

Its madness.

Yet even on this thread we can find apologists and a liberal understanding of why a British Woman might of deserved being flogged because she allowed a class within a secular school to name a f***ing teddy bear Mohammed.

Sums up what I think as well!

Made my blood boil when I was listening to the radio when driving into work this morning to hear that NCP will not pay for office Christmas parties because they employ people from all different faiths and they dont want to upset non Christians. This country and its pathetic tip toe round every faith is really pi**ing me off! Can you imagine an employer in Sudan not having prayer time because they might offend any Christians working for them?? I think not!!!!!!!!

If people get that upset by celebrating Christmas then f**k off out of the UK where we should be free to celebrate what we want when we want how we want without first checking that everyone is ok with it all. I am a non believer (and these idiotic goings on make me know that I am right in that) but I will not complain to my boss that we are having a Christmas Party!

Sorry if you thought I was being patronising, it was just you were getting some serious abuse and I thought you may not have been putting your point across very well.

Likewise...if only all those in Darfur were white middle-aged Englishwomen then the west might give 2 shits.

World War 3 will happen in our lifetime - I'm sure of it. Sweepstake anyone?! I reckon it'll start in 2015 - which means we're running out of time to win the premiership!!

I never thought I would say this, but I would quite happily sign up if needed.

Sweepstake? No thanks. I'd end up with some non-league country like Bolivia snd go out in the first round.

The links to Darfur should not be ignored here, the Govt have obviously tried to get the Muslim world on their side and detract from their horrors of mass murdering their own population, it looks like most other middle eastern countries, are also assessing the bear incident as pathetic.

Those bloody banners at the top of NSC. Quite funny how today it is for single Muslim dating, and appearing above this thread!!

Until stones do us part...

I posted on this year after year, the average black, asian bloke in the street just doesn't get upset over XMAS, in fact there is joint celebration with their own religions.

NCP and others are just being ignorant and pathetic. I work for the one of Ken Livingstones agencies, if any organisation is going to be "right on". it will be us. Half the workforce, is from every religion, race etc. And we having at leat two Christmas do's.

And chill man, have your beer and mince pies. I will.

She's just been officially charged in court for inciting racial hatred.

The britsh ambassador has said he hopes common sense will prevail...........

Fourty lashes then

this is one of those stories that even Sunday Sport could not make up, the Daily Mail Editor must be fuming!!

But isn't that the point? We live in a society where people do care about upsetting other people and other faiths, surely that is a better society than one that could potentially whip the skin off the back of a well meaning middle aged do gooder? I think the NCP stance is very foolish, but rather that then what is happening in the Sudan.

Why are the muslims getting so worked up about the naming of a bear anyway? You didn't see the Hindus rioting in the street when Yogi Bear was on.

This is nothing more than a show of power by a corrupt military dictatorship and probably has no real reflection on the 'crime'. In their eyes it is an opportunity to show a western government not to meddle in their internal affair ( extermination of muslims in Darfur).

I have an open mind and have nothing against muslims in general but these oppressive fundamentalist government should be wiped off the face of the earth (and yes I know its not that straight forward).

I suspect she will be released as a humanitarian gesture after being dragged through their courts and humiliated. Why she wanted to go to a shit ole like the Sudan in the first place is beyond me, she should have been a bit more cautious in her choice of countries, but that does not excuse the reaction.

The situation with the school teacher is totally wrong. Maybe a word from the foreign office about future Aid will swing it (lets face it Sudan probably uses the aid money for bullets and so might think more about it).

But really, people (and BAG) need to wise up. These countries are run by nutters, avoid at all costs.

As far as this country, I am sick to death about our way of life being undermind so as not to offend muslims. Having said that, its not generally muslims who come up with these barmy ideas..........its the white middle class liberals who do it.
