Why check it out?its very common for high performance cars to have low mileage as they are not used for pounding up and down the country.Im thinking of getting an M3 soon as bargains are out there to be had.

aye, with the mpg of such cars they arent exactly commuters, or travel a few miles a day. though that in itself is usually not good for them, especially the turbos. unless you know cars or get it checked out if paying more than a couple of grand anyway.

Still not entirely sure which way to go!
I guess what the OP should have said is 'I have 6k to spend on a sporty but practical car - please help!'

If the 6K is on a practical, reliable with a good long life ahead of it, a Golf (anywhere between 2002-2008) will do everything you'd need!

I do love my rally cars so...

Good for them or not most people don't do loads of miles in high performance sports cars.

Some very funny answers on here. Here is my take on it,

The Subaru Imprezza is an Iconic supercar, it can hold its own against pretty much anything else on the road, whilst retaining comfort and practicality. Compared to an Evo it is fractionally outperform but the Mitsubishi is a terrible choice if it is your main car, uncomfortable to drive and really is a rally car in its natural form. A Pulsar is as rare as rocking horse shit. A Cossie will cost about £20,000+ and BMW are generally unreliable/expensive mechanically!

An STI is the top spec Imprezza (not including the P1) but the WRX is still a complete beast.

Ok to celebrate our quality season I am thinking of buying a second hand Impreza.
(well sounded like as good a reason as any:bounce:)

I'm not a car fanatic or anything and don't want one that looks like it's been crashed in the local branch of Halfords...
However I have seen quite a tasty 2006 2.5 WRX saloon which has only 28k on the clock and is going for 6k.
I haven't had a Subaru or anything like one tbh so would appreciate any input that anyone could offer?

 THANK YOU! AAAALLLLLLLBBBIOOOON!

it's a Rally car. They never get out of gear two on the public highway lol, it sounds tortured.

Here you go, £6K, faster than an Impreza, more practical, and a bit classier too.

Audi : Audi s4 avant (full rs4 + spec)

I was hoping to say 'here you go' but it is a little old for the money? For the record I just happened to mention to my wife (29) about this thread and she said, and I quote 'Subaru Impeza's just scream cock'

As you were :)

 when I got mine, 12 years ago, we went out for something to eat, and my wife wanted me to drop her off so she could walk the last hundred yards :)

Having had three Subarus, they don't really age as well as an Audi, cheap plastics, cloth seats (often). If you take a look at a cared for and un-modified S3 or S4, you'll be getting a nice car with plenty of whistles and bells. Even at 1-2 years or so older than a comparably priced Subaru, the Audi would, I'm my experience, be a nicer presented car.

Classy is not a word I'd associate with that.

I was referring to it being classier than an Impreza. That said, perhaps that one was a bit hardcore, but there are a few others on that site that are un-modified and nice little wolves in sheeps clothing.

Used to think the Subaru Impreza was the mutts nuts until I saw the aftermath of a head on RTC of an Impreza versus a Saab - the occupants of the Saab walked away badly shocked but uninjured - however the Impreza driver is no longer with us, as it folded up like a banana. Nice car - but do drive it safely! I have never felt the same desire to own one since then. I wonder what the fully comp insurance is for an Impreza?

Despite that I must admit that new Subaru coupe looks the business - as does its Toyota cousin.
