How do you know he was signalling to go towards the Princess Royal? He could have been heading to Caxton Way....
Anyway...if he entered that roundabout from Sussex Road, signalling left, as you seem to suggest (wrongly, in my opinion) that he should have done, I'd have expected him to go into South Road, the first exit. If he signalled left before that, i.e. entering the roundabout as you suggest he should have done, then somebody might have pulled out from South Road into his path, expecting him to turn off. He obviously felt he should make it clear to the traffic trying to enter the roundabout from South Road that he was going past that exit, thus ensuring vehicles on that road, and anybody inside him on the roundabout, didn't come into contact with him.
Given the layout of the roundabout, and his path as you've described it, I don't think he's done a lot wrong, other than perhaps he could possibly have been more aware of your intent to cross the road as a pedestrian. The only thing I might question- and it's a fairly debatable point- is whether he needed to signal at all when entering that roundabout. I certainly don't think he should have indicated left, as you suggest. Me, I'd probably not signal at all on entering the roundabout, then indicate left after I'd passed the South Road exit.
When taking any intermediate exit, unless signs or markings indicate otherwise <<<<<<<<<*****THIS IS HIM, BG*****
select the appropriate lane on approach to and on the roundabout
you should not normally need to signal on approach
stay in this lane until you need to alter course to exit the roundabout
signal left after you have passed the exit before the one you want.
Thank you, not hugging the roundabout and then indicate and swing left. Unfortunately it happens a lot there so I am partially aware of it If he was going to Caxton Way do you think it was correct as that is not a right turn completely.
Another problem with that roundabout is people going around it whilst on the phone. it must happen 50 times a day and I dont have my phone ready or I would photograph it. But I am sure old bill have much more to do than worry about that.
Could have only realised at the last second that was his turn I guess. It's not the worst thing in the world, is it?
Chin up...
Not really just annoyed me at the time as I usually have one of my grandchildren that want to walk down the town with me. Best left now.
Quite, Let he who is without sin & all that...
The problem is that you are in a no win situation if you put an officer on the roundabout filming all traffic movement it would be a waste of resources if somebody got knocked over and died you should have been watching it.
The 2 roundabouts on the A259 in Newhaven have got to be the worst in Sussex, many drivers seem to just make up their own rules when using them.
On the Denton roundabout, drivers coming from Seaford either indicate right and then go straight on, or don't indicate and then turn right to Denton
The B&Q roundabout coming from Seaford towards Newhaven bridge is a nightmare when the traffic is really busy, anything goes including drivers going all the way round the roundabout and back the other way in the inside lane.
The Denton one going from newhaven towards seaford is bad as it takes you straight into the right hand lane and people from Denton assume you're going right round. Then people coming from seaford towards newhaven often go in straight into the right hand lane whereas I always go into the left then merge into the right. Have seen a couple of near misses.
Drove that exact roundabout around 14:30 today the route BG describes. The left hand lane is left turn only (left turning arrow) and the right hand lane has a straight ahead arrow. I indicated left off the roundabout. Hope this helps.
If only everybody did that.
The arrows on the road, along with the road signs on that one-coming from newahven along the drove,it's left hand lane, exiting Sainsburys-left only, into Avis rd...the right hand lane is indeed for Seaford....when past Avis rd indicate left for Seasford,or right if you wish to tell Seaford visitors to Newhaven that you are coming back round the roundabout..

He was indicating right so I expected him to turn right and head towards Princess Royal Hospital Imagine if I had been either older and less mobile or handicapped.
Indeed. But once on the roundabout you end up in the right hand lane and the left hand lane serves little purpose.
This one really gets on my titties. Coming off the A27 westbound at the Adur flyover, there are two exits ( A283 north and south ) and two lanes going onto the roundabout. Whilst it is normally correct to use the left hand lane to go straight on in this case it is surely logical to use the right. Yet most seem surprised when I do so.

If they indicated right would it help, before indicating left after making such an error? all too often the real problem is people don't read the road markings and signs..
