Exactly. It's NOT a dancing competition any more than the Generation Game was an entrance exam for the SAS - or the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award is about sporting achievment. It's just Saturday evening entertainement for the housebound elderly or people who haven't got a social life and should be treated as such.

If people wanted to watch simply professional dancing, they would have their own show on tv and there would be no need for celebrities.

Why are people taking this programme so seriously? John Sergeant was put in the show to play the fool, to be laughed at. If this was a dance competition then he wouldn't have been put in and we would have had 12 models/sports stars. Well, it's backfired on the BBC and the public are loving it and now they want to take their ball back.

And so what if he goes on to win it, not that I think he will? It's not like the X-Factor where winning this show is going to change anyone's lives. It's just a load of "celebrities" taking time out from doing f*** all, to dance for a few weeks, before going back to doing f*** all.

If the judges gave double the points and the public the same as now ie the judges gave 2/3rd and the public 1/3rd it would men that for the judges order to be changed it would need a lot of votes from the public to move somebody off of the bottom as using that system JS as bottom would have got 2 pts, the next one 4 so for him to avoid being last he would have to beat at least the next on the list above him plus 1 other to get the 3 pts needed to jump off of the bottom.

It does seem expensive at £139 but then that only applies if this is the only programme you watch. And that wouldn't be very clever as you appear not to like it!!!! Other than that, I agree with what you say. This is not a professional dance competition but a Saturday evening entertainment. The BBC selected the celebrities so they knew full well what they were getting into. Also, the dancers are also promoting themselves as the show opens up other opportunities for them.

At the end of the day, anyone who moans about this tv show should just get a life.

1) What indication do you have that the programme is cheap to make.

2) The BBC don't make a profit from the phone calls, they aren't allowed to.

The BBC are laughing. Viewing figures are up because of the furore and the money made from the phone calls goes to Children in Need. If you want to vote for Sergent its going to charity and one of the better ones too.

The bottom line is that this is light entertainment. If it was a dance program the judges would have all the voting power. And no-one would watch it because they couldn’t get involved. The great thing for me is that the more twats like Craig Revell Knobhead get annoyed with him staying in, the less likely the public are to stop voting. The face on that male dancer who got knocked out with that Cheri last night was a picture. As Chappers says it was well funny.

Thats spot on. I have been saying this to the wife for weeks. The really weird thing is how seriously the celebs take it and that group hug thingy at the end makes me cringe.

I also think that the judges are the 4 most obnoxious people on TV.

I must be a right saddo ?..... I have little or no interest in most tv reality/vote for me tv shows. I'm afraid my life will still run its course despite bad dancers or bad singers winning/whining or thrown out because of a "Travesty".

i've watched this developing over the last few weeks or so and think that I will probably start voting for John as of now. However I can't help but think that it is for no purpose - presumably many of the people who voted for Cherie Lunghi will now vote for someone else who they feel deserves to win. The only person almost certainly not getting their vote will be JS.

However it is an entertainment show - if you want it to be judged critically then, as previously mentioned, don't ask the public to vote on it as they know **** all about the subject. You'll then end up with a program that'll soon have viewing figures of around 7 and will disappear from the airwaves.

And it's hilarous watching people getting wound up by this, just priceless. John on redial....

The only reason I watch the show is to see the judges fulminate over JS. The more hypocritical sanctimonious bulls**t I hear them utter about it being a dancing programme rather than a purely entertainment programme, the more I want JS to do well. I watch both programmes for the light entertainment they give me and am perplexed at the furore some departures cause. I think you are roughkly the same age as me and thus am intrigued at the unpleasant jibe at those who watch it. What do you do come Saturday Mr Social? Is it clubbing in Brighton or perhaps a social wild shbang at your place.
