This is a beautifully haunting song about Lord Franklin's lost expedition that set sail in 1845. The entire expedition of 129 men was lost. The story is ongoing as many expeditions have followed to try and locate the two missing ships. One was discovered as recently as 2016. See wiki link for full story..

As a footnote, there's some strange ideas as to what constitutes a 'story' song on here - still, I suppose if some people just want to post a favourite song of theirs, that's OK.

Just magnificent. A song in three acts. A track off Pulp’s final album, which did little in the charts but was probably their most accomplished work. The Scott Walker production shines through in this song especially.

I think they named themselves after the village, but changed the spelling. Released about seven albums, which range from electronic indie pop to 'urban country'. Ever changing line-ups, but centrered around Rob 'Hacker' Jessett - who writes all their great lyrics- and vocalist Anne Gilpin. Been on the London circuit for years. They also released an anti-Brexit protest album of European cover versions and have just made a documentary film about the band. Worth seeing when things get back to normal, always entertaining.
