I find it hard to believe that Kean is not familiar with Jordan Rhodes! The article/interview refers to the three deadline day signings named in the opening post.
I would suggest that if Brighton were to sign someone for EIGHT MILLION POUNDS, Gus would have watched that player. Maybe not for a young development player like Bergkamp.
I watched the first DVD of the Withdean years last night, and Booker mentions that Adams never saw Zamora before signing him on loan. He was apparently very surprised how skinny Zamora was.
So there are situations where a manager wouldn't watch a signing, but for £8m I'm pretty sure most managers would look at a player first.
None of those players cost 8 million pounds?
From the Zaha thread:
Seems Palace try to foist players on their manager, too, though apparently don't have the money to do so.
I agree that you don't have to see a player play live if you've got good scouts and you've seen enough tv footage. How many times do you think Poyet saw Orlandi, Dobbie and Lopez play prior to committing?
but that's a joke example, he wasn't an expensive signing, and Gus never wanted him here.Roland *cough* Bergkamp.
