Of course I don't think he doesn't know the difference. If I thought he couldn't tell difference I would suggest he get replaced on the show. Seeing as I didn't do that, I obviously respect his knowledge of the game.

I'd wager that Claridge has seen us more times over the past three seasons than any other lower league pundit. It was a simple slip of the tongue.

Give the bloke a break.

He was extremely complementary about us, he gushed that we were the real deal, so much so that other teams were having to change their normal style of play, in order to contain us.

Why the constant persecution complex stuff on here ?
This. I like the bloke. He loves us. What's the problem?

How many of us would get it exactly right every week about the playing style of every player in every squad in three different leagues. I know they get briefed, but he can't have much time to prepare between the footage being ready and the programme going live.

But on the show he claimed to have seen us 3 times so far this season. I am assuming that means coming to the stadium (home or away) rather than watching it on the telly.

I thought he was very complimentary which is a bit of an about turn from his view on how we would fair this season. However he has seen us three times this season and is very impressed. Not really a problem is it!!!

We have an "aura" about us apparently, which makes teams feel like they have to change their game.

I've nothing against Claridge. Always tried his best when he played for us, and in his best game, West Ham away, caused them a fair amount of trouble, and he always sounds enthusiastic, even if he gets facts wrong. The one I can't stand is David Pleat. The bloke talks complete garbage, such as on the way back from Cardiff, when he kept going on that we had nothing like the fan base to sustain us should we get up to the Premiership, and said he couldn't see how we could survive with the size of ground we have. Fortunately I had a couple of mates with me, otherwise I would have shouted at the radio.

What is it with some Brighton supporters and Steve Claridge? Give the man a break. He waxes lyrical about Brighton in a way I don't think I've ever heard from a pundit and some twats pull him up on a slip of the tongue.

There always seems to be animosity towards pundits that have played for us, especially when they don't mention the fact they've played for the Albion in every other sentence.

Even if he mixed up his player comparisons, he was surely making the point that we have adequate players who have stepped up to take up the space that might have been left by us losing Bennett. We don't miss Murray either, though of course none of our new lads will be compared in style to him.

If anyone might be compared with Bennett, I would say it's KLL for his ability to lash long-distance shots into the net, and trouble keepers with good crosses.

Not bothered by Claridge saying it anyway.

Hear, hear, well said. I'd much rather listen to him and his opinions than a bozo like Garth Crooks who, in my view - is a complete embaressment on BBC's Final Score. I really don't know Gabby Logan manages to be so polite to him.....

Claridge was pissed off with the way Mark McGhee treated him at Brighton but was very complimentary towards the club and supporters in his autobiography.

he gets the work because he's that rare breed of ex footballer who can rabbit away at TV pace without using the word 'like' every third word. I'll always have a soft spot for him having been at the play off final when he scored for Leicester against Palace in the last minute of injury time in extra time

???

So. f***ing. what...?

This Claridge-bashing is tedious in the extreme. 'OMG, he got something a bit wrong about a player and how we play. What a twat he is...' etc.

Go and find something worthwhile to grizzle about, would you?

To be fair (and I dont know why I'm defending him), he has a stack of notes provided by researchers. He was probably fed duff information by them.

He said that Blackpool got a terrific point against us, this suggests he believes we are top quality.
