Can you explain how Steele was supposed to save any of those today?

That's the point isn't it. There's no way Steele could have saved any of those today.

However if we had a top quality keeper in goal, we wouldn't have conceeded six today, that's for sure.

He's a Championship level shot stopper at best. Quality Premier League keepers make outrageous saves all of the time.

Fair point. We haven’t replaced Caicedo. Or if we have (Baleba) we need to find a way to get him in the team.
Perhaps ahead of Hinshelwood would be a possible solution. Or not pick 2 strikers and have an extra midfield player to block the huge gaps there today.

Utter tosh. Villa conceded 5 on the opening day with World Cup winning Martinez in goal. It happens.

With a top quality keeper, maybe we concede 5 rather than 6.

I encourage you to watch the goals back (grim viewing). You will see there is nothing the keeper can do.

Okay, Steele conceded one more than that... but still, that's not the point.

We see it all the time with Steele, conceding goals that a better keeper would have saved. This is not an isolated game. It's just he's not a very good shot stopper at this level.

Don't mean to be harsh on him, because he's been a great servant and can still do a job as a back up... but keeper is such an important position. A decent shot stopper can so often be the difference between 0 and 3 points... or it could have saved us face on a day like today.

We need to go all in with Bart now.

Can you provide a specific example?

For poor performances you can add Ferguson. Did nothing of note.
you absolutely can but it’s fairly well known at this point that ferguson and welbeck do not work together. they don’t compliment each other's game and it leave a big gap in midfield.

that line up today almost set him up to fail, absolutely no idea why RDZ thought it would work

Singling out Steele when he was behind that utter car crash of a midfield and defence shows that some people have zero understanding of football. Pervis looked like he won a competition to play in a prem football match, the centre backs left Watkins constantly unmarked, and the central and wide midfield was non existent and incapable of winning a tackle or making basic passes. But let’s blame the keeper. Lol.

Both players who have always struggled to settle into rhythm, Webster always struggles when he is in and out the team/back from injuries and Steele (like most goalkeepers) will struggle with rotation, there’s a reason goalkeepers aren’t often rotated like we are doing at the moment.

RDZ got it massively wrong today, Villas strongest area is midfield and we went in so light in that area it was beyond daft.

An example of a goal that we conceded that could have been saved.
Their second certainly, also their fifth and sixth. Third and fourth no, they were deflections. First certainly very hard to save.

Point is that no one is blaming him for not saving any of them them, well hit goals to the corners. But the best keepers pull out jaw-dropping saves that you can't believe they got to.

Can we turn the question round, can you name an amazing mind-blowing save from Steele?
