State funeral for Saint Jade of Goody?

May I say that as a Yank I have no effing idea who Jade Goody is.. and seem to be none the worse for it.

But I just listened to the World Service in my car and they were doing a global phone-in about her. She was being defended by people from around the world who seemed to care a great deal about her - I have NO idea why.

From what I've read she did an EXCELLENT job of illustrating what a dunghill the UK has become since I left.

Were said threads actually about her death, or the ghoulish media circus and public outpourings from people she had never met surrounding her final days/weeks etc?

3,000 a week die from cancer in this country, they are all tragedies to those connected to the deceased, but don't register a flicker in the Red Tops or internet.

Yesterday a 20 year old Rugby League player died in a match, no RIP threads on NSC, two weeks Tim Kretschmer killed 16 people, many of them young and totally innocent, in Germany, how did we react on NSC, by talking about Slade, Knight and the usual shite, we didn't give a flying f***.

The reaction to JG's death is disproportionate to the contribution she made to our lives (which, lets be honest, was zero), and many people find it (the reaction and mawkishness of politicians and fellow bandwagon hoppers) distasteful. It does not mean that many (if any) on this site wished her to die young from cancer, and I would have thought that that was clear in their posts.

Some would say it is distasteful to take the piss out of someone's death, but are they lampooning the death itself, or the hypocritical headlines in the press who have loved every second of the past few weeks, because it SELLS MORE COPIES OF THEIR RAGS. They know it, Max Clifford knows it, Jade Goody I suspect didn't.

Spot on with every single word.

Well thats strange, as Obama has pleaded with Max Clifford to be allowed to attend the funeral.

Its a nice clear sky tonight and I went in search of the new star.

There it was, right in the middle of the Dragon constellation.

She also did an interview saying how she 'couldn't cope'. I am obviously out of date when it comes to the definition of privacy. I expect months and months of 'my life is empty without Jade' etc. Perhaps she could have made the most of her daughters short life instead of spending much of the time in a drug induced daze.

I still can't believe our Prime Minister and various other herberts came out with their sincere condolences. Goody is no more special than the thousands of people that die every week. The whole charade is sick beyond contempt. I can't believe I am even wasting my time typing about the girl. Pah!

The worst offenders in this remain the tabloids who, until very recently, were drawing their "readers"' attention to Goody's 'loudmouth' stupidity and 'piggy' looks, while urging them to howl for her 'racist' blood. But now, all her sins are magically wiped away, and Saint Jade is redeemed.

The tabloids can get away with this ludicrous about-face precisely because they know their dim readers will have instantly forgotten all that earlier vilification. So now, clutching their 16-page pullouts, they obediently flock to Essex's newest shrine.

Meanwhile, as the State Funeral draws near, those Sun hacks will be enjoying a bloody good laugh at Britain's most gullible dimwits, their endless, ignoramus tributes and their nasty garage bouquets. A truly pathetic spectacle.

And Gordon Brown's advisers want shooting.

Nothing else left to say, this thread should drop into the depths of NSC forever after this.

I have read a lot of posts and heard peoples opinions on the whole Jade Goody saga and this post I think sums it all up so well, a brilliant post.
Thank my lucky stars I have been in Oz for the past week and a half and haven't had to endure the media frenzy surrounding her dying and death.

I did post a thread on the RL player, it got one response.

Apologies as I didn't see it.

The front pages of The Sun and The Mirror are of course allowing the 'family' to grieve for their loss by posting papparazi long lens shot of JG's kids, who for reasons best known to themselves are wearing boxing gloves and both papers are using the straplines "Brave Jade's kids are fighters like their mum"

Like others have said in this and other threads, cancer screening will increase as a result of this death. But I find it hard to understand how people are so upset by her death. Yes I feel sorry for her family and especially her children who not only have to live with the fact that their mother is dead but with the added grief that she died on Mothering Sunday.

The young lady was a nobody who is only known by people outside her circle of friends because she was on a game show and was seen to be a bit dim. She then managed to cash in on that dumb persona to the point where she was invited to take part in the celebrity version of the game show. On which she found fame again for her racist remarks to another contestant.

What makes it worse is that the same sections of the media who were calling for her blood when she was seen to be a racist is the same section that is now leading the Princess Jade call.
