Semenyo and Kerkez both completed all 97 minutes v Man City, and 98 minutes v Brentford, before THEN discovering they were too hurty to travel to play for Ghana and Hungary.

If I were a betting chap, I'd wager they just MIGHT recover in time for Saturday's game.
Pray not we deserve some injury luck. Semenyo one of the best players in the EPL at the moment

Gruda hasn’t impressed at all , still yet to see what he has to offer , does not Seem to have that much pace , hasn’t gone passed anyone , crossing not great , doesn’t look like he is going to score many goals
you’re still running with this? after FIVE appearances, and not a single full 90? christ alive

Which is a ridiculously good team, when you consider the number of players we can afford to rest.
Other than the 3 mentioned, that includes Ayari/Ferguson/Gruda/Wieffer/Moder/Enciso/Minteh/March/Milner all being able to be rested
Even more so when you consider we have 10, yes 10, players out injured more than any other Club in the League along with Citeh - as many as we had in the second half of last season so a testimony to how TB built up the squad in the summer.

Also, considering Pep was moaning and groaning about their 10 injuries yet we still managed to beat them.

I don’t know how these footballers do it. I get ill whenever I fly, no matter whether I wear a face mask, eat and drink or not, and any flight longer than an hour or two seems to be knock me on my arse for a day. I’ve caught covid the last two times I’ve flown (double jabbed natch).

I appreciate they are fit young men in great health, but still, flying long haul, training, playing in a match, then flying long haul… it must be absolutely exhausting

Looks like ALL attackers available.

But

Ferdi , dunk , milner out

ayari , Hinshelwood not sure maybe not risked.

Centre mid looking a bit threadbare again. Maybe forced to start baleba and O'Riley.

Interesting that Dunk is still out.
He pulled up in the warm up against Wolves, with "a small muscle injury" and hasn't been available since.

After the press conference, I reckon Pervis starts and one of Hinsh or Ayari will be fit enough to start alongside Baleba.

Bart
Veltman, JPvH, Igor, Pervis
Baleba, Ayari
Minteh, Georginio, Joao Pedro
Welbeck

Seems to happen so often - “just a small injury/strain” - and out for weeks and months. I wonder if the messaging from the club is always overly positive, yet the O’Riley injury sounded (and indeed was) very nasty and I wondered if we’d see him again this season. A surgery and rehab later he’s back scoring on his league debut just a few months later. Incredible

O'Riley has had 2 weeks since City. He must be getting close to being able to start.
If Dunk is fit he might start Igor at LB. Pervis is a risk IMO given the travel.
Attacking wise Mitoma, Adringa, Ensico, Gruda and O'Riley could come off the bench. That is awesome.
I posted earlier, FB is going to have a real headache come the Soton game. Not just starting 11, the 20.

I differ a little on the Newcastle game to your lovely description of 'one-off pragmatism' somewhat. We were pushed back in the first half to such an extent that it wasn't really viable to know whether the players were instructed to play a high (or what FH calls an active) line. In the second half, we were protecting a lead, and did so quite brilliantly whilst looking really dangerous on the counter-attack. It was only in the last 15/20 mins of that half that we really went into defensive mode when FH brought on another CB and we played five at the back. This is another way of saying that we never had the initiative to play a high/active line.
We've been pushed up in most other games when we can. There is still the chaos, but it's when and how it's used that seems to be key. Related to this, there are a few video analysts circulating the view that we play without a midfield (which would be about the definition of chaos in football AFAIAC) and there's something in that, but it applies to when we're on the front foot, eg second half versus City.
Yes, I think I agree with this.

I've also seen a couple of videos talking about the no midfield tactic which explained a lot of what I was seeing and not enjoying. The Chelsea game and first half against Spurs were prime examples for me of this not working.

Our matches seem to be all about momentum. When we have it we're very good, and at the start of the season when we didn't we we're pretty abject. It feels like we're starting to control the chaos a little now. When we're not on the front foot we are a little more resilient - Newcastle and Liverpool being the examples that spring to mind and even the first half against City.

So if we can learn to weather the storm when we don't have the momentum and then can unleash chaos on command when we do I'm on board with FH's tactics. It's only a small sample size so far but we seem to be moving in the right direction and I'd hope that will only continue with more games and the new/injured players settling in/back into the team.

Very, very easy to re-strain it during rehab too..................the soleus (if it is that) is particularly slow to heal and also quite difficult to get to for physio/manipulation too, slowing down recovery even more
Yep. I'd think I was fighting fit, then 2 minutes into my first game back, there it'd go 😖
