I think the concern is that when you have reached this goal, the diet can very easily undo itself. Whilst you may intend to keep the exercise and healthy eating up, you can't really legislate for what may come later in your life...

This is true, as with my case a breakdown happended, but i'm ok now and ready to get back to the healthy life...and god willing no tragedies that knock me sideways

Good luck mate, the best advice I can give is keep active. A friend of mine shed about 10 stone over the course of about 6/7 months through playing football weekly, going for a run 3 times a week and cutting back on the bad food. Didn't stop completely, and we still went out for the odd drink here and there. You don't need to punish yourself, just be disciplined and realistic. I hope you've got a supportive cast of people around you mate. All the best. :)

Not so much lookng forward to the pictures if I'm honest mate. Seriously mate, you'll be suprised at how much better you can feel after playing footie and getting knackered like you wouldn't believe! In my opinion, being active is ATLEAST as important at the food you're putting into your system.

Playing 5 a side fuct up my knees, much as i love playing footy i can't risk getting injured from it and halting my progress, just gonna stick to the safe environment of a gym.

I had massive fry-ups twice a day on the Atkins diet, eggs, bacon, mushrooms, plus loads of cheese and peanut butter (which is 50% fat), just to see if it worked. I lost 3lb over 8 days when my weight was previously constant. But it's only useful as a short-term measure imo.

BTW, how come you can spell weighed but not weight?

I was told by a gym instructor guy (and have read on websites) its 70% what you put or don't put in your belly and 30% exercise

Yep, that's what they all say. I'm not going to be radical and say they're lying, obviously they're not. But if you only eat the right foods and spend time at the gym, you're going to get very bored and you'll stray from the path. My friend has been trying for a decade to lose weight, and it was only until he started playing football did he manage to keep the desire and effort to succeed. Everyone is different though, and if you have the strength and will power, I'm sure you'll succeed. I read your other post aswell, about not being able to play football, that's fair enough. Any interest in cycling?

Yeah, good luck. I woke up one morning fed-up with being overweight, started doing 3 weight sessions a week at the gym and eating healthy and regularly e.g. had breakfast for the first time in 15 years. Weight feel off and I now have visible biceps for the first time in my life. I'm ten years older than you, it can be done. I guess the point I'm making is I just did it by being sensible, never went near a prescribed diet plan.

I do cycle to work (although recently have been getting on the bus) and as from tomorrow will be cycling to gym aswell, and as i go to uni 3 days a week will be cycling there too, but not looking forward to cycling in the ice come Jan/Feb. I would give anything to play footy again, your mate is lucky to be able to, but i've got something (maybe a tendon) that goes eveytime i play it so i quit. but there's other things i can do so i'll have to find a new sport i love (it just has to be low impact on the knees) cycling, rowing, swimming etc

Yea only on it to start me off.

I don't have a problem with spelling, but more typing, always hitting the wrong damn keys

Congratulations on your success, i'm gonna have to train myself to just be more sensible with nutrition like yourself and have a day off a week or something like that, just involves forward planning, preparing food the day before, that can be tiring itself

Thats about it. I basically bought a wok and cook most of my meals in it, mainly stir-frys. I don't do carbs for my evening meal anymore, worked for me. When I feel hungry and eat fruit.

Its not rocket science.

cos i know it works

But it doesn't if you've put the weight back on.

You're just what they call a yo-yo dieter, which isn't good or healthy.

Fair play to you for getting on with losing the weight, but I think serious, healthy, long-term, sensible changes would get better results over a longer period of time ie the rest of your life!

I am sure that I have read that the Atkins diet has been slated and described as dangerous in many newspapers. The inventor of it died as a fat bastard I think.
