yes I agree it is. Was just highlighting that it’s a very low level at which tax is paid. It can likewise be argued that this level if too low for all, retirees and workers, let alone freeze it for a while longer.

My simplified tax system is this:
- Personal allowance of (just guessing here) £15,000 or £17,500?
- Abolish NI. Income tax records will become the sauce of state pension accruing rights data.
- Income tax starting at 25% graduated up 42.5%.

A a stroke; cutting all the thresholds/cliffs where people dance around avoiding a higher rate, reduce poverty, still incentivise people progressing in well paid careers or running businesses, a huge saving in DWP/HMRC admin, easier to follow and administer, making our tax codes slimmer (the second most complicated in the world).

I didn’t watch last nights soap opera nor do i intend to watch any in the future, however i did read the pre match bills up with all sorts of suggestions of Sunak being mauled by Starmer with his forensic lawyer guile and cunning, now reading the post match analysis it seems the common theme is these tv debates are rubbish, i’m assuming it didn’t go Starmer way then?

But there is a problem with this policy.

All State pensioners are equal, but some are more equal than others! Here's the rub, not all State pensioners receive the same rate of State pension. I have a client whose State pension is over £25K PA, and a couple more around the £20K PA mark.

So are ALL State pensioners to receive a Personal Allowance of £25K PA. Or is the idea that all State pensioners will get a Personal Allowance equivalent to their State pension?

He hasn't thought this through has he?

If low household income, any of the above qualify for Housing Benefit or Pension Credit too.

The people with lower state pensions now, generally opted out of SERPS. HMRC instead pumped in money into their occupational or private pension scheme at the time.

Now the dust has settled I'm starting to feel like Starmer had a plan. Just like with Johnson he lets his opposition lie and hang themselves, then let the court of public opinion be the judge.

Initially Sunak scored 51% in poll as coming out on top, but if you ran that again today it would be a lower

Lying spolit public school boy who interrupts a lot sums it up
It’s like the arrogant hare and the tortoise.

The hare steams off at 50mph assuming it’s an easy win. It can’t believe it’s luck as it turns around the the tortoise is nowhere to be seen.

Unfortunately for the Hare, it seems the tortoise had a plan. A good one.

We all know who wins this.

now that would be far too simple and dare I say ‘sensible’.

once that’s sorted let’s have a look at business rates and taxes. Something, and I admit to not knowing what ‘something’ would look like, that would encourage small businesses and job creation, and ensure that the internet sheds pay their fair whack. Even if based abroad in some ’get out of paying UK tax’ haven.

Get those two right and we may start to get somewhere

It’s exactly how Starmer nailed Johnson over Partygate

They have guessed some numbers, added them up and then divided that by the number of 'workign families' and come up with £2k/family and had the audacity its been fully independently assessed.

Its bollox.
But if Labour don’t give the answer as to where the money is coming from it leaves a gap to be filled by this doesn’t it. And if they don’t fill it, why?

I thought Starmer had a piss poor performance last night. If I was him I would pull a sickie for the next TV debate and let Rayner rip into Sunak.
On Friday Labour's Angela Rayner and Tory Penny Mordaunt will be going at it hard.

It's a mass debate - the Lib Dems, SNP, Plaid, Greens and Reform will also be there, presumably taking questions and not just standing in a circle.

So Labour 'leaving this gap' is your justification for the Leader of the country being forced to lie about it multiple times on TV ?

The reason every single party has this 'gap' is because the election was only called a week and a half ago and nobody has published a costed manifesto yet. Although you may expect the party responsible for it to have a bit of a head start ?

But it's definitely Labour that are the only ones 'with a gap' isn't it. Despite your newly found centrist 'I'm really uncommitted at this election' stance, I find I'm not totally convinced

Interesting Article in the Tory bible 'The Spectator' today. Maybe you haven't read it yet ?

On Sunak’s maths, Tories will lift taxes by £3,000 per household

Well you could assume Reforms will be out first as they only really have one issue to persue.
Invade the Sudetenland and take it from there?

Business rates. Absolutely. The antiquated system hits the high street, leaving empty shops.

The England match on Friday night suddenly looks far more appealing

I’m looking forward to that more. Although the LibDems and Greens will effectively be in the Westminster wilderness come 5th July, it’ll be interesting to hear something different from Labour-Tory brickbats.

Questions about joining the Customs Union and EU would be interesting eg pinning Ed Davey down on that.
