You didn't like it, fair enough, you can't please everyone. I was just pointing out that one of your main complaints this time also applies to the originals. It's easy to forget that the originals weren't perfect either.

Well at least we agree. I found it just a wallow in nostalgia without taking the story forward at all. It had to do a little bit more for me than finding R2D2 in sleep mode, a bar scene identical to the first and the fact the Han and the Princess had great sex.

I suspect this was something that needed to be done for the fans, but god I suspected more than effectively a remake of the first film with a few extra characters.

Very looking forward to the next film now the producers have got the geeks off their back.

I think those guys should go for a beer together.

Ooo, that's messy. He'd have to be a grandparent, so we've got missing parents too.

Unless he knocked up some Sith groupie (maybe around ROTJ time when he was at the zenith of his power; think early 70's Jagger), but then Vader found out, and in a fit of jealousy stuck her and her unborn baby in carbon freeze. Then Palpatine and Vader die, leaving a mysterious, in utero Jedi foetus just waiting to be defrosted...

I went to see it with my son yesterday and absolutely loved it. Yes the story was generic in many ways but there was more than enough new stuff to keep it interesting and more importantly the whole feel of it is proper Star Wars. Visually stunning on the MASSIVE screen as well. The bit when the X-wings came over the horizon nearly had me in tears, especially when I turned to see the massive grin on my 9 yr old lad's face.

Damn it, sometimes it's just staring you in the face, but it's so obvious you don't see it.

Thinking back the only bit I wasn't keen on was the scene with the Rathtars on the Eravana.

Was a bit too Men in Black for me.

I keep coming back to this thread because I can't get the film out of head. I'm middle aged, I don't watch many action films and nothing from the Marvel catalogue. I watch a lot of low budget drama and yet there is just something about Star Wars that I find utterly enthralling.

The sequence where Rey gathers the lightsaber from under Ren's nose using the force and the original, unaltered 1977 score played totally got me. I had a lump in my throat the size of a melon. Films of this sort just shouldn't do this to me.
R2-D2 waking up got me a bit. Pathetic really, but I guess I've been waiting 30 years for this film.

:)

There's nothing wrong with obvious, not everything has to be a shocking twist.

For me I'd prefer it if it wasn't even a twist at all. Better to be just someone who, for whatever mystical reason, is just packing bare force*.

*Yes, NSC. I did just use 'bare' in that context. Swivel.

On reflection I need to go and see it again, so will be doing so tomorrow.

If only to sit in a cinema and see the star wars and the music come up again, marvellous scenes.

Normal people can be force sensitive, but they don't have the power of someone who's descend from Anakin. That's why Luke and Leia were hidden from the Emperor, and why the Emperor and Vader tried to get him. I don't see it as a twist if Leia and Luke have children, why wouldn't they?

I could have told you that.

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — An 18-year-old Helena man is charged with threatening to shoot a boy for sharing information about a subplot of the new "Star Wars" movie during an online conversation.

Arthur Charles Roy was charged with felony assault with a weapon Monday during an appearance in Lewis and Clark County Justice Court. He remains jailed with his bail set at $10,000.

Prosecutors allege Roy became angry Thursday when he learned details about the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," from a Facebook friend.

Court records said he sent the friend a picture of himself with a gun and threatened to come to the victim's school to shoot him.

Helena's alternative high school was locked down Friday morning. Police arrested Roy on Friday afternoon.

It's unclear whether Roy has obtained a lawyer. A public defender is representing him in an ongoing separate case.

Regardless of whether you'd describe it as a twist or not, there's just something about the mooted Luke-Rey thing that, given the tropes of the series, seems overly familiar and too obvious.

I reckon it won't be that is all I'm saying.

My money is on Rey being Kylo Ren's sister.
I'll take that bet. Bit odd that Leia didn't realise she had a daughter too.
