Has anyone been in there fairly recently? Particular in the evening (or weekend).
Has it changed much from the ZOO days?
Cheers.

Apparently going there for the football Saturday.
Heard it's been taken over fairly recently, and has improved a fair bit.
You had to book tables in advanced, and they're having table service. So should be OK, I reckon.

Live a matter of yards away - It is on Fiveways.

Changed owner and has changed management twice since the 'Zoo' days. Still get the few degenerates in there but the place is unrecognisable from before.

From my experiences the less desirable clientele have moved on to the Hollingdean and the Franklyn after the Bevendean closed down not long ago.

It's the Hollingbury even though it is in Hollingdean which is a bit strange.

What are "zoo" days ?

The place was closed down because it was full of animals. Without naming names there were plenty of undesirables drinking there on a regular basis who soon ran amok. There was an incident a few new years / Christmases ago where the pool table was covered in cocaine and the police were called every five minutes because of fighting. They briefly reopened under the same owners but were forced to have door staff on at all times of the day. Understandably this affected their trade...

From a personal POV it really was not an enjoyable experience walking past that place on a night with all those like-minded remedials hanging around outside looking for trouble. Glad those days are long gone...

Yeah, sorry - I've always called it that for some strange reason. To be fair it isn't a rough boozer at all - Just has a few oddballs and potential hotheads in there...

Maybe when the manager got part of his nose bitten of? Or when a fight spilled over to fox and sons and somebody got thrown through the window.

You remember those days also? You local? I once popped in there on my way into town once and saw a lad I used to go to primary school with who I had not seen since I was ten or eleven. He approached me and asked 'Hello mate, do you want to buy this DVD player? It isn't nicked' - thus confirming it was stolen... Swerved the place as often as I could have from then on...

Yeah I live about 5-10 mins from there and in my whole life I've probably been in there about 10 times but never on a saturday evening apart from the incident involving fox and sons windows! Allegedly was the only pub in Brighton where someone would go into the toilets down and depressed and would come out cartwheeling! But in such an area it's strange that it is so bad when in fact it could potentially be a goldmine with the right management.
