Stanmer Park Tavern...

Yeah I live about 5-10 mins from there and in my whole life I've probably been in there about 10 times but never on a saturday evening apart from the incident involving fox and sons windows! Allegedly was the only pub in Brighton where someone would go into the toilets down and depressed and would come out cartwheeling! But in such an area it's strange that it is so bad when in fact it could potentially be a goldmine with the right management.

I've always thought the same as it appears to be the only Pub (excluding the Cleveland) in the area that hasn't 'sold out' to the organic mulled wine drinking shite that appear in the other local pubs. Just the sheer size of the place is another massive plus which never seems to be exploited...

I've always lived around that was as well (went to Downs) and must say it has always puzzled me why its always been such an avoidable place. Tend to trek down to the Roundhill on the way into town which is a little pointless...

I work in the park view and to be fair its a decent place to drink and not too poncy, I do like the cleveland also and last time I was in there they had some nice eye candy working behind the bar which is a bonus! Also do you remember when the stanmer had a bowling alley inside!

No but my Dad always mentions it - perhaps I'm too young :smokin:

Used to like going in TPV but was put off when I was told a friend with Alopecia was told to take off his baseball cap or leave. The manager apparently explained he had never had any trouble in a pub he had run where he had enforced this rule and intended to stick by it regardless. I was not present when this happened so it may have been blown out of all proportion but found this a little odd...

I work in the kitchen but do remember this, it was last year some time. Over the top by the manager I agree.

As I say I wasn't there and the lad who told me (as nice as he is) can come across as a little rude sometimes. Always wondered if that had any bearing on it but I'll never know for sure.

Good work! The food in there is always nice and has been as long as I can remember. Kudos.

In my defence, I was left unsupervised.

Agreed. I too am a Fiveways resident (the Stanmer is about 200 yards from my front door) and when we first moved in I thought it was ok - I was from Lancing so it actually seemed quite posh to me, and the bowling alley was brilliant! Then, like others, I got caught up in a couple of 'incidents' there (including a huge row with a load of racists) and decided to give it a miss from then on.

Now I've got so used to walking past it (usually to the Cleveland) that, like the stickies at the top of NSC, it hardly registers. My favourite pub in the area used to be the PPT, and its loss to the gastropub tendency was a grevious blow. We watched the 2006 World Cup there and we still haven't decided on a replacement. If the Stanmer is now frequented by humans again we might go there - as you say it's big enough.

I see the wine bar on the corner of the Hollingdean Terrace (Birdcage Walk) is doing football upstairs, but you have to book!

The Park view is doing the world cup too.
