scot prem league agreed to 5 clubs sharing grounds next season ...hearts was givin green light (perhaps jambo can enlighten us ) also both dundee clubs and falkirk and clyde should they get promoted ..Interestingly enough they declined inverness the extended time to upgrade if they got promoted

financial trouble ..nearly went bust think they are selling ground...makes sense seemings their grounds are virtually back to back and they never fill either ground..should have one decent staduim for both teams

It's about time they got some decent grounds outside of the Old Firm. Most of the time you see one, at best two, decent stands, then the camera pans round and the rest of the ground makes the Dripping Pan look like the San Siro. Meadowbank Thistle used to have a couple of grass banks making up 50% of their ground in the early 90s (hence the name?).
Inverness Caledonian Thistles ground is by the main road / river . . .theres plenty of room for expansion if they need it . . . .whether they get crowds that warrant it is another matter . . . .one side looks like Premiership all seater, the other three are non league specials !

yeah have seen ICT ground and as you say loads of room to develop..meadowbank thistle was named after Ferrranti thistle who the team originally formed as in Edinburgh and the meadowbank stadium/area of the city

The really crazy thing is that clubs are going into debt to get their grounds up to the required capacity of 10,000 which is one of the SPL bye-laws. Only 3 clubs outside the OF have average attendances over 10,000 and when Livi played Partick the other week, the attendance was in the order of 3,500. At a time when 3 clubs in the SPL are in administration and at least another two on the brink this is quite preposterous.
Dundee are in administration and the bank are pushing for Dens to be sold and them moving in with DUFC. Most Dundee supporters are dead set against this and DU fans don;t want it. Unlike the Hearts situation where Tynie is in prime Edinburgh real estate, Dens is unlikely to rais much more than £1million so there is no real financial imperative to it. As for the Hearts situation, this is a long way from being a done deal. The pieman needs to push it through an EGM and there is a big fund-raising drive by the Trust to buy up the shares owned by SMG to get rid of the Pieman and his cohorts. Watch this space.

I don't know why all the other teams in Scotland outside of the old firm don't just break away from the SPL and for a new league. Leave the two big clubs to play each other 46 times and see who wins?

After visiting Tynecastle for the hearts v gers match a few weeks back, I was amazed that the chairman was thinking of selling the ground.
How have they reached this financial situation when they get ok crowds in a nice ground and don't the players can't be on that much!!!
Enjoyed the two mascots who seem to fight amongst themselves and do crazy dances......

It seems to me that Scottish football as a whole is in a right state at the moment. Attendances are falling all the time, if it wasn't for the visits by Celtic and Rangers I wonder what the figures would be like for the likes of Dunfermline and Partick Thistle.
The league and cups are dominated by Celtic and to a lesser extent, Rangers. I know that Scottish football has always been dominated by these two but you can see in the 80's the likes of Aberdeen, Dundee United and Hearts giving them a run for their money. Now it seems like the league is over before it has begun. Add to that the seeming closed shop mentality of the Premier league and it's no wonder people are turning their backs. Partick have been woeful this season, pathetic. Yet in all probabilty they'll still be their next season, still being shit and losing most games in front of a few thousand people. Meanwhile ambitious clubs like Inverness and Clyde will still be in the second tier simply because they don't have 10,000 seats. What's the point? The only time the seats will be filled will be when Celtic and Rangers visit.
Add to that the disgusting affair with Airdrie United and Clydebank and it seems to me like the Scottish football authorities haven't got a clue about how to turn things around and improve the industry. Here's hoping the new grant money that's going towards youth development might be a step in the right direction.

It may be better for Scottish football if Rangers and Celtic did join the English Leagues. At least there would be a healthier National League.
I can't think why the lower leagues aren't made bigger. It must be really boring being a Brechin fan and playing Queen of the SOuth four times per season.

for a discussion on it. Basically the CEO has racked up debts of 17 million and the only way he can see to stop them going out of business is to sell the ground. As someone said the other day it's like having to sell your house because you haven;t paid the mortgage for 8 years. We may have to sell Tynie but we MUST get rid of the board. That is actually the most important thing.

The current SPL is now so unequal and uncompetitive that whereas even in the recent past the arrival of the OF at the home grounds of the other teams was a big day out as was the thought of going to Darkheid or Castle Greyskull. Now, you find that the crowds at these home games are going down because not many people are interested in shelling out £20 to go and see their team get humped 4-0 at home. Even the OF fans are getting pissed off with seeing their teams winning so easily. True this Rangers team has redressed the balance as it is the worst hun side since 1983 but even so it's getting beyond a a joke. A non OF league would be the most competitive league in Europe with no fewer than 5 or 6 teams having the chance at winning the league every year.
