On October 12, BBC4 will screen a brand new documentary ‘Squeeze: Take Me I'm Yours’ which reappraises the song-writing clout of Difford and Tilbrook, and shows why Squeeze hold a special place in British Popular music.

Contributions will come from former band members Jools Holland and Paul Carrack, together with testament from Elvis Costello, Mark Knopfler and Aimee Man.

A well over due look at Squeeze, who unfortunately didn't quite reach the commercial highs they should have done, despite selling out Madisson Square Gardens several times.

There is also a concert of theirs brodacast straight after.

You can also catch them live in the UK this Xmas, where they will be playing new songs off their upcoming new album.

Plug over.

I'll be there. Any chance they'll show the bit where Glenn Tillbrook turns up at a fan's house for a private gig?

I'm glad that they didn't!!!! My brother in law videoed it and there is a part where I am on stage with Glenn and I'm singing "Cool For Cats". Not that I can sing any note, but I was drunk as well. It was awful. Plus I knocked the microphone over.

I know what you mean, but I guess every song is a new one at some stage. To be honest, I go to see them everytime that they tour and all I heard was the greatest hits. It was getting a bit repetitive. I was screaming out for something new.

The new stuff that I have heard stands up pretty well, plus they will always play their greatest hits.

A bit like you and Sir Bob onstage at the Suite all those years ago :)

They were brilliant in their time, they are a bit off the pace now. Was seriously considering going to see them live but I honestly can't justify paying £32 a ticket for them. Have moved on to Reverend and The Makers and Fountains of Wayne for my witty lyrics and catchy choones now.

Saw them at the Brighton Centre once & also had the briefest of conversations on the phone with Mr Difford once. Seemed a nice chap.

Going to see them live in a few weeks with Paul Heaton joining them as lead vocalist. Should be a decent evening.

One of the best gigs I have ever bee to was at the Leas Cliffe Hall in Folkestone with Carrack for the second time on keyboards. Cheers Diffbrook, I'm looking forward to the documentary.

There was a 'Songbook' on Sky Arts featuring Difford and Tillbrook last night. Not a massive fan to be honest, but they were very interesting about their work. I knew more of their songs than I thought I did!

How's it going to reappraise Difford and Tillbrook? By suddenly deciding they weren't the best songwriting team since Lennon and McCartney after all?

I took that line from BBC site. Maybe reappraise is the wrong word, but certainly examining that commercial success doesn't always equate to quality. Squeeze were very hit and miss commercially, even Tempted didn't reach the top 40 in this country, yet quite possibly its one of the best songs of the 80's. Certainly Difford & Tilbrook are up their with the best songwriters this country has produced, yet didn't reap the commercial rewrads their contempories received. Maybe the documentary will explain why?...bad management and breaking up at the height of their momentum in 1982 didn't help.

HUH??? Explain this!!!

I chanced upon the doc last night on iPlayer - fabulous I thought, but oh crikey how OLD are they now?! Gilson Lavis looks about bloody EIGHTY!!

My first ever gig was Squeeze at the late lamented Town and Country club in the late 80s: can't remember a thing about it except that it was brilliant. Then I moved to America for a year just after, and my first pal over there was someone who wanted to know about all the Brit references in their songs ("Who are Morecambe and Wise?" etc etc). They were huge in America.

A marvellous, marvellous band.

The latest in a line of fascinating music documentaries on BBC Four. Long overdue in the case of Squeeze - one of the finest bands Britain has produced in my lifetime. Difford and Tilbrook opened up - the part on Some Fantastic Place was really moving.

Recommended for anyone with even a passing interest in the band.

I recorded the documentary and watched it on Saturday. Am a massive Squeeze fan and very much enjoyed it. On Sunday, popped in to Homebase in Lewes only to walk past Chris Difford....one of those surreal moments when you can`t actually think of anything to say (and he looked dead miserable !).
