CEO has just emailed me asking me to go out to Atlanta for a meeting on the 10th Jan.

Now on the face of it this seems fine. HOWEVER, there are no flights on Saturady after 1:00pm out of London and it costs £900 to fly on the Sunday as opposed to £250 on the Saturday.

I have pointed out that I cannot fly on the Saturday due to the Spurs game (which will go down REALLY well).

I'm seriously worried now that I'm going to miss the game :(

You work from Monday to Friday 9-5. The weekend is your time not your companies. Tell him to move the meeting!

When you get to the airport, go to the terminal and say that you strongly suspect that there's a bomb on board your flight. Make up some bullshit reason why, you saw somebody dodgy tampering with something.

The flight will then be cancelled and you'll be able to make it to White Hart Lane, without losing face with your employer!

Is there not an early flight on monday you can get? Going to Atlanta you will probably arrive the same time you took off!

There are loads of flights on Sunday I can get. But the CEO is not going to be too chuffed at having to pay out an extra £600 because I want to watch a game of football.

There is a Virgin flight to Newark departing 2130 arriving 2310 but then you'd have to wait until 0600 for a connecting flight to Atlanta with Air Tran airways.

Depending on what day you come back that is just over £400.00 but do you want to go to the Spurs game badly enough to spend a night in Newark airport and come back via Newark as well??

Expecting you to give up half your weekend has to be worth an extra £150.00 to your boss doesn't it???

Well I've told him the score;

1) I don't go
2) Have the meeting a week later
3) Pay an extra £600

I'll get a response at about 14:00 when they wake up...

However, I suspect that the answer will none of the three options I have provided above :censored:

I know. The point is I have to fly on the Saturday to get cheap flights. To fly out on Monday would be the same price as the Sunday.

To get cheap flights you need to stay the weekend. The vast majority of business trip fly during the week and don't want to stay the weekend. I have to stay the weekend to get the cheap fare. I suppose I could stay the whole week and fly back the following monday but I REALLY don't want to do that.

So far the bomb scare seems like a good option!

Are you contracted to work weekends?

It's your own fault for telling them you had a football match to go to. Weddings, funerals, christenings... THINK MAN!

Honesty is ALWAYS the best policy. There are people this end that know what I'm up to so I have to be open about it.

The CEO is a reasonable bloke but this could test his resolve.

How much would it cost to install the equipment for video conferencing?

Give it a week, then give them a call and tell them you've just been on the phone to a relative and been told your Uncle or whoever (make sure it's a close relative) has died and the funeral is on the said Spurs match date and you won't be able to make the flight on that date. :jester:

Shit loads.

The VC machines we had at Sun Alliance were well expensive and if it was more then on site that was linking up the charges can be a lot to make the calls.

Dear Lammy,

I am your long lost great uncle Albert. You are the only relative I have left who might still be speaking to me, ever since the unfortunate incident with the chicken. I am very ill at the moment, and I'm in urgent need of life-saving medical treatment. I have booked into Guys Hospital on Saturday 9 January, but need someone to help me with the arrangements for admission.

Could you possibly drive me to the hospital on that day and ensure that my personal belongings are safely stored in my bedside locker?

If anything goes wrong during the operation, you'll find my will and the keys to the house in the blue carrier bag.

I'm sorry to have to ask for your help, but I really have no-one else to turn to and I would hate to come to the end of my sad life without making one last effort to reconcile myself to someone in the family.

Your very contrite Uncle Albert.

PS I guess it's hardly surprising that none of the vegetarians in the family have ever forgiven me,

Just print that off - and show it to your boss.

:)
