Speeding prosecution, advice needed

Just received a notice of intended prosecution from hampshire constabulary for driving at 36mph in a 30mph zone (video/photo evidence).

Never had so much as a parking ticket up to now. Is there any way of getting out of this and if not, what kind of 'punishment' am I looking at. They've sent me a form, asking me if I was the driver, and is the vehicle registered in my name etc etc, but there's no mention of fines/endorsments etc

anybody had any similar experiences

Yes - I was in same position as you and then managed to get done for 36 in a 30 twice and now have 6 points. There has been talk of attending a speed awareness session in lieu of the points but that was not offered to me.

Yep I wasn't offered speeding awareness courses for my SP30 or SP50 But don't think you have much choice to fight it, just pay it and get on with it.

that's it I'm afraid and stays on your livcence for 4 or 5 years - not sure which tbh.

If it wasn't you driving you have to give them up as otherwise you will cop out big time.

automatic fine and all done through the post though so don't have to worry about court or any crap like that

Only drivers caught doing less than 38mph on a road with a 30mph limit can attend the courses. They will pay about £90 for the one-day course instead of the normal £60 fixed penalty, but they will avoid having any points added to their licences.

All those caught at 38mph and above will continue to be fined and given penalty points.

I think this is only available on your first offence.

I had the same thing a couple of months ago 36 in a 30. I looked at all the options but basically failing to admit you were the driver or name them lands you with a potentially worse penalty than admitting it and paying up. I wouldn't have minded if I had been doing 90 on a motorway or somethiing but 36 ffs!!

Points stay on the licence for four years, but they are only 'active' for 3.

Driving at 90mph through Croydon is excusable, just to reduce the amount of time you have to spend there...but Hampshire is really rather pleasant in comparison, what's the hurry?

£74 payment, Speed Awareness Course and 0 points

£60 payment, 3 points

Oooh - a tad harsh.

Many speed limits seem to be set with the deliberate intention of trapping the driver........inappropriately placed for example, and sometimes it can be as dangerous watching your speed on a clear road when you should be watching what is fgoing on outside the car! I am an advocate of manufacturers limiting the power of a car rather than creating something that because of its power is harder to drive within the speed limit than not. Why can't they have in-built audible speed alerts at 30/40/50 (most common speed limits) and then a limiter over 70. The cost would be negligable

I have often made the point though that the vast majority of speeding tickets seem to quote the 36mph figure...not all of course but a significant number. I do sometimes think that if more drivers challenged when the police equipment was last calibrated there would be a lot get off. The trouble is to do so costs you more and creates more risk of a larger penalty.

The speeding cameras that I cannot understand are the two going north on the A24 just before Bucks Barn everybody races up to them , are then advised they are speeding and slow down to go through the camera and then speed up again to repeat the process at the next one. Why not link them and make it an average speed area, that would be more effective in slowing down the traffic on that stretch of road.

There are average speed cameras in the roadworks on the M27 between Fareham and Portsmouth and these seem to work very well to slow everyone down.
