God no Dave - we'll build one one day - but never buy one finished - although that one seems to have some pedigree which is why he's hoping for £70k, its probably worth more like £50 - £55k....

That Volvo's supposed to be alright I think. Volvo diesel engines are pretty economical, but I've heard horrible things about maintenance costs through Volvo main dealers, although that can be said about most main dealers I think...

The Volvo is a lovely looking car, BUT, I think they roll off the forecourt at about £30k, and there are much more exciting cars in the price range IMHO.

Incidentally, I didn't think the S80 came in a 2.6D, I thought the diesel engine only went up to 2.4.

perhaps it was a 2.4, we only got the details on Sunday.

I did quite fancy a BMW, but for the money, the Volvo certainly ticked all the boxes

I know what you mean, as far as the Beamers are concerned, your money doesn't seem to go very far with them.

Value for money, Volvo's are pretty good, you get "a lot of car for your money" as they say. I just never get a "wow" factor with them, although the S80 does get quite close.

It was raced by Jim Clark, your not just buying the car but the history as well.

I'd reckon the BMW will retain a lot more of it's value though.

At least when I was looking at a couple of year old C70 cabrio or 3 series cabrio, the 3 series was a hell of a lot more.

(I went with the BMW, of course)
