Great save by Ryan. Dunk is now pretty much faultless. Can't imagine a massive team not coming in for him. 40-50 million for 4 years of absolute quality, leader. No brainer.

?? Southampton are a really good team at home. What do you expect? Us to win 4-0?

Are you taking the piss ? Stains have lost 10 times at home this season.

Adam Webster man of the match for me. Faultless and very brave. Closely followed by Ryan and Dunk. Lamptey, Trossard and Propper shocking

Agree, one of his best performances. Can’t wait to see why he can do in his second season. Same for Maupay. Championship players making the step up and they have done well overall.

Point away at very in-form Southampton.

Beaten Arsenal and Norwich, point at Leceister and well beaten by the two best teams in the country.

Played a resurgent Man United at the wrong time.

It's been a very good post lock down. if you look at our run in. Where the points were reasonably available we got them with a bonus at Leicester.

Not sure what those complaining exactly wanted.

How can people say we were rubbish all game?!?

We were in total control first half

It was the game of 2 halves - bit like Leicester. Poor second half but decent enough first. We’ve done well overall this season all things considered.

We defended like lions tonight, proud of the boys, Southampton are a very good side, if they keep Ings fit, top six next year.

Webster’s best ever game for us, I thought he was immense, looked a 20 million pound player tonight.

Very hard to watch

But end of the day we went there for a point and got it

Job done.

If they play like that in the last two games then we have every right to be livid

So we go away to Southampton who in their last home game beat Man City and grind out a draw and people are moaning about the performance. Our fans are ridiculous.

Southampton are one of the form sides since the restart and we just got the point that almost guarantees survival and still you moan. Pathetic.

I myself was thinking Lamptey looked off the pace and his positioning was not on tonight for the 15 minutes before Ings scored that goal, considering his great past performances. I assume Potter was thinking the same. Potter's only fault tonight in my opinion was that he took Lamptey off 10 minutes too late. Other than that happy!

Mooy on for Murray was also a rubbish sub, left us devoid of options and put more pressure on us. Still, a point's a point and that's all that matters.

It was always going to get nervy tonight and so it was.

Now we can relax and play with freedom against an also on the beach Newcastle, in what is basically a pre-season friendly for 20/21.

I think you're right in the sense that Southampton have been very handy since the lockdown and on this form would look to finish top half next season. A point is certainly not to be snubbed.

However, I don't think it's wrong to highlight some of our deficiencies. If Southampton had got a winner it would not have been undeserved. The most worrying aspect for me is our defensive game. I don't mean the defence as in back four, or any individual defender. On the contrary I believe we have a very good back four: Webster's improving, Dunk continues to show to me that he's the best English CB in the PL and Lamptey got roasted tonight but generally he's been an excellent addition. But the ease at which Southampton brought the ball from their defence to attack was extremely concerning. Every time they brought the ball past the halfway line they'd be in our penalty area, stretching our defence, five seconds later. At points it looked like we were playing with 10 men. Though our defenders are excellent at last ditch defending/blocks/goal line clearances, they shouldn't be having to do it 6-7 times in a half. Fair enough if this was against Liverpool, but not a mid-table side who we'd reasonably aspire to be in 1-2 seasons. Is this essentially a midfield problem, not providing a good enough screen for the back four? I don't know.

That aside, an excellent goal, some excellent individual moments (Ryan's save from Vestegaard, Webster and Dunky's blocks) and a precious point which should all but see us safe and dry for another year.
