These threads are funnier when you've got a Southampton KNOBHEAD (or is it nobhead?) to take the piss out of. I miss REDNOB and JCB (the international playboy millionaire). :(

Here I am. Gutted to lose today, deserved more. Still think we'll easily stay up. You cant judge us based on the fixtures weve had. Fair enough against Wigan we were poor in the 2nd half but that aside weve looked good. Easily enough about us to compete in this league, especially with new signings starting after the international break.

You need to keep Lamblana fit or you could struggle.

Also, don't underestimate the psychological impact on Nige of stuffing up so badly today - it was there for the taking and he got it horrendously wrong - it's going to play on his mind every time you're in the lead in the second half again. There'll be pressure from the fans too, every time he does or doesn't make a substitution.

FFS we played Man Utd. They are perennial late scorers. Our only bad performance was the 2nd half v Wigan. We were better than them 1st half and should have scored.

That said, the defence is used to L1 and NPC defences over the last 2 years. We need to liven up to Prem attackers. Hopefully 2 new keepers and an internation captain CB will help..... and if NA isn't up to scratch, trust me NC will replace him (hopefully not with Redknapp)

Jeez if I look back to seasons in the 90's when we always lost our first 5 or 6 games but still stayed up.

Next three games should reveal all, personally both Man city and Man u looked like they always could step up a gear and win, both missed pens that would have dented stains earlier in the game and and Adkins as Bozza rightly points out has an ego that Jedward would die for.

You played a poor Man U and your manager allowed them to score 2 late goals - you could see it was going to happen as soon as he made the subs. You're manager has bought players without prem experience and the grim reaper is waiting to take over from him in the form of Harry Redknapp

Another thing redneb - when are your fans going to come out and give that team the support it deserves? It was disappointing to see swathes of empty seats in the home ends - I'm sure Manchester United could have used those if you'd all just budged up a bit.

We'll see. Personally looking at our fixtures after our next game I'm still excited about our prospects, especially with Ramirez coming in.

Edit: Dion Dubion on MOTD2: saints would have won against any other team today.

Yes like Wigan. You need defenders and were rolled by bologna paying £10M more than they paid for him in 2010

Silly argument. He wasn't proven then. Man Utd paid a fraction for Ronaldo than what they got for him. He's still Madrids best player though.

The game was annouced as sold out ages ago. Dunno why there were empty seats.

Interesting last goal for Manchester United. I have been watching the near post corner defending since Liverpool (was it an on form Suarez?) score at the Amex.

Southampton had three players at the near post who were not paying attention and no one (perhaps I should say nobody now) on the far post. I don't know what what the modern text book says. I think I would have two tall players on the edge of the six yard box at the near corner. Then the keeper can worry just about deep crosses.

Also a player on the defending side to pick up on any headed or punched clearances that could fall kindly for the opposition. One of the two on the near post can help with short corners as well. I think short corner routines are very dangerous. With long corners the winger has to swop sides for inswingers.

Graham Taylor defensive tactics | Tactics | FourFourTwo Performance

I agree with Graham Taylor about the near post but I don't think we need a man on the near post goal line though.
