Out of interest, were Southampton to go out of business (god forbid), Division 1 would be a team short next season, would the team that finished 4th bottom stay up or an extra team from div 2 get promoted (play-off final losers?).

Not that this will make any difference to us as we'll win Saturday and stay up anyway.

damn - too slow.

Surely this is just another scare story to prompt the consortiums to make their move. The club are in administration and the administrator is trying to get the best deal for the creditors. If the best offer was only 10p in the £ then they would take it.

Southampton won't fold (and we'll be playing them next year).
True. These things have a set pattern, people say "this famous old club will die unless someone steps forward now!", then they complain about the points deductions by saying "It just punishes the fans and none of this is their fault. The children won't someone please think of the children." Then, surprise surprise, it all gets sorted out. There will be a Southampton FC next season playing at St Mary's. Looking forward to going.

It's a sign of the times I think and unfortunately I think there will be many more a the next couple of years in all fields of sport.
After all they are run as a business so must suffer the same accordingly.

Why are they bothering with an appeal against the 10 points if they're going out of business next week anyway ?

Yep, that's exactly what's going on.

The players are understood to have been paid last week thanks only to £130,000 raised by fans under a Save Our Saints appeal.

So, these poor little footballers have basically been paid courtesy of a whip-round from the fans. ???

Blimey, no wonder they have to resort to scavaging through handbags in nightclubs.

Thank you for that, I needed a laugh today.

Was that made from Play Doh at a local Primary School?

There was a big fuss when that statue was unveiled because his head is totally out of proportion. I thought there was a plan to take it away and do it properly.

As for where's the money gone ? (Bale, Walcott, 2003 Cup Final)
I believe that is precisely what the Saints fans want to know.

That is the old one. The new one looks a bit better, although not half as funny.

That comedy statue could well become my NSC AVATAR if their fans start appearing on here telling us we'll never play them again.

Surely this makes a mockery of Southampton's claims that the holding company is an entirely separate entity and thus the football players and fans shouldn't be punished? ???

If that was the case, there's no reason for the football club to be insolvent, surely?

Anyway, I feel this is like most of these appeals these days: make out you're on the verge of folding and watch the investors roll up. No club's gone to the wall since Aldershot/Maidstone, I think, so why should Southampton be any different? Bit of a stark warning for other, ex Premier League teams though, I imagine.

I must admit, I'm quite impressed with the levels of support that have stuck with Southampton. They've been shit for a couple of seasons and the lowest league gate in that time is 14,700.

If that had been Chelsea or West Ham, the gates would have been about 11,000 by now - even though both have more supporters than Southampton.

I think there support has been pretty average considering that for the twenty five(?) years befor that they were a top flight team and are 'a premier league team in all but league position'. How do their attendences compare to clubs like Norwich, Ipswich, Sheff utd, sheff wed, wolves, coventry, derby, forest?

Decent ground probably accounts for a few thousand, bet they wouldn't have done as well if they were still at the Dell

I'm no expert but I don't think any of those things amount to much money in the long term when you look at the overall running of a football club, especially one that tried to keep a premiership infrastructure after being relegated for too long.

That said, there are people on here who still think Dick Knight is hiding money from the 2004 playoffs and Spurs/West Ham...

The Southampton Echo did a big spread about a year ago, to answer this. Apparently, and incredibly, their player ins and outs all but tally over the last ten years. £37m from player sales. £34.5m SPENT on players.

They've not hidden the cash, just spunked it on rubbish.

£5m for Rory Delap anyone?

I believe there are 2 consortiums going through due dilegence (my spelling has been terrible, today) at the moment.

Plus the worst case scenario (I bet that's not right either) is Southampton City Council, buying/owning the ground and thereby pretty much guarenteeing the clubs future at the same time.
As worse cases go, it ain't too bad.
