Southampton 'out of business in eight days'

The Southampton Echo did a big spread about a year ago, to answer this. Apparently, and incredibly, their player ins and outs all but tally over the last ten years. £37m from player sales. £34.5m SPENT on players.

They've not hidden the cash, just spunked it on rubbish.

£5m for Rory Delap anyone?

Fkg hell. That is shocking.

I was at the Arsenal Cup Final with the Saints fans in the pissing rain. If you would have told them then that within six years they would be in the third division with us (hopefully) and all but out of business they just would not have believed it.
Add to that the fact that they lost that Cup Final miserably and Pompey are currently the Cup holders and that just adds insult to injury.

Nice new stadia do not always mean instant success. When we all take our seats for the first game at Falmer remember that. He who laughs first laughs last. I don't want to see them go

Sorry, but what on earth is 'he who laughs first laughs last', never heard that one unless the person laughing happens to be in a room on their own!

Thought it was "he who laughs last laughs longest"?

Not very different to us

1983 First Division football, the Cup Final and a couple of Wembley appearances!!!!)
1988 Third Division football, a winding up order and a couple of visits from the Taxman!!!!!

How ironic! His trademark long throw have created God knows how many goals for Stoke this season, just enough to keep them in the Prem for another year.

Therefore, if you are Stoke, £5m for Delap is peanuts.

That said, there are people on here who still think Dick Knight is hiding money from the 2004 playoffs and Spurs/West Ham...

DK said categorically that there is no hidden dosh as he lit a cigar with a £50 note , reclining on a sun lounger next to the swimming pool at his Spanish villa.

A classic case of bad management. Forget about how much they've recouped in player sales, what were they doing with the £20m a season from sky and all the sponsorship. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to work out, they've spunked it all on player wages. Remember that next time Baz Savage starts banging on about his contract

Do not think they will go under as somebody will buy them on the cheap.

What happened about the rumour around Christmas time that the heiress to Wallmart's (Asda) husband was interested in buying them.

Hospitality income is vital for Southampton.

No problem in the Premier League but this season I think over half the boxes were vacant so I dread to think what it will be like next year.

Tickets in The Bobby Stokes Suite cost £110+VAT EACH - I can't see too many people shelling out that sort of cash for glamour ties against Stockport or Yeovil.

On a brighter note Wolves are buzzing at the moment as the football club is doing well.

A heck of a lot of development has been going on, old buildings replaced and even talk of flattening a whole area for an extending shopping complex that would make Wolves have a centre as big as the Bullring (although they've apparently been saying that for two decades now)

Just the way it goes, some places improve and others go back

He who laughs last, licks windows :) (sorry, could not resist bringing up an old debate)

As has been said its all a ploy to speed up the buyers. One thing I do like the look of is the appeal against the 10 point deduction. Hope it doubled for wasting the FL's valuable time :)

Or, has got the deeper meaning of the joke!

Judging by the last time I was in the area, they would have to bulldoze a fu*cking massive area to improve the place. Still, would provide enough hardcore for developments around the rest of the country for years to come.

Probably wise, but according to the Non League Paper they have already made approaches regarding joining the conference if everything goes tits up.
