Sounds like we played well even if we lost.

First 20 minutes, we were awful and i think half the players hadnt realised we'd kicked off, ifill down their right tore us apart and after some sloppy defending we were 2-0 down. Could argue for i think it was the second goal, that Brezovan could have come out and claimed it, but wouldnt like to say anymore until ive seen a replay. For the rest of the game, we bossed it, no doubt, and on another day could have come away with 3 or 4 goals easily. Once again, a sloppy start at the back has cost us, but im not worried, we could easily have won that game by 2 or 3 goals, especially with Murrays chance that hit the post. We played a side 4th in the league, and bossed it for 70 minutes, but results still arent consistent!

I thought Navarro played quite well, but eventually tired and began to misplace passes. Maybe it was just me..?

Sorry........you thought Navarro played well.........????????????

He was number 8 by the way.

Apart from McNulty the whole defence is nowhere near the standard. Both centre backs are weak as piss. How Virgo can't get in I do not know.

If we don't spend on defenders in January we are certs to go down.

I won't mention Navarro.!!

Personally thought Tunnicliffe was great tonight, dealt with Odejayi really well in the 2nd half who is bloody strong!! All about opinions i guess.

Yes he did...........only problem was that Odejayi was only on for just over 20 minutes at the end. The player who came off, Lisbie, dominated our defence for the first 70 minutes.

i thought we were bloody unlucky today and if our strikers were on form we would have had 5!

I thought he did well with Lisbie too, both goals were down the opposite end to where i was sat, so would need to see them again but didnt look like his fault.

Please please please get Virgo in for Elphick. I never thought i'd see the day that one of our centre backs' distribution became worse than Virgo's standard, but hey presto it's happened.
Elphick's continuous 'launch the ball' tactic is wearing a bit thin. You've got time to keep the bloody ball on the ground!

Apart from the first 20 minutes and the result we were excellent tonight. The best team lost. Mcnulty coming on certainly changed things for the better. I would have liked to have seen Navarro taken off earlier and cox put on to give us a bit more balance. We need an experienced centre back to control the back line and let the other players know who to pick up, another Butters will do the trick. One last negative Murray's flick ons never happened and he was always the option from the throw ins we may as well have just given them the ball back.

apart from 20 mins the best ive seen at home by a mile, shame fozzie and murray had an off night or we would have won comfortably, the back 4 looked solid after the bad start and seem to be getting it together, the star was without a doubt mcnulty, for me he is the best player at the club.we are a different side when he is in. its just worrying that we keep losing these games, theres no way we are a bottom 4 side but the table says otherwise.

From the sounds of it, we played well. May be if we get a couple of defenders in January things might change, those 2 goals did us. Little bit dissapointed but I do feel we are slowly making positive steps forward. We did not play like this under Slade.
agree entirely mate. I thought that was one of the better displays under Gus. We're going to be ok.

I must have gone to a different game tonight than most on here. I thought that we completlely dominated the game after 15 minutes and that Colchester were one of the worst sides I have seen at Withdean this season. Not one bit of football in them just brute force and ignorance route one football which gave them 2 goals. I am so glad Boothroyd didnt get the managers job with us. Once McNulty came on there was only one side in the game. Murray and Forster could have each had a hattrick and we would all be shouting their praises. Dicker was his usual reliable self, Navarro had his best game for us so far, Croft was a little quiet. McNulty, Hoyte did their respective jobs efficiently and after the first 10 mins Tunnicliffe and Ellphick both at fault for the 2 goals got it together and played quite well. Why do we have to give a side a 2 goal lead before we start to play. Prestozan had very little to do and dealt with the crosses well. Their star man without doubt was their keeper who will never experience such good luck ever again.

Navarro played well and made some good passes, albeit there were some shit ones too but then that was the case for everyone.

I am seriously f***ed off with this defeat. I would normally be one of the people saying we'd played well and were unlucky. Tonight though I am thoroughly pissed off. That game was there for the taking, Colchester were terrible. Poor finishing has cost us and in our situation we HAVE to put away the sitters (Murray, Crofts and to a slightly lesser extent Forster).

There were good and bad things tonight. Apart from the first 15 minutes we weren't awful, and we had loads of attacks in the second half but just couldn't put the ball away.

I thought Tunnicliffe and Elphick looked ok once they'd got their usual bout of comedy defending out of their system in the first 15. Obviously we need players that can do it for 90, so if he doesn't strengthen the defence in January we're f***ed. Imissed both their goals so couldn't say who was at fault.

It was actually quite an entertaining game. We seems to be moving the ball around a bit quicker under Poyet, obviously the same weaknesses and errors are still there because it's the same players.

He looks to be lacking in physical strength to me. He can play better football than Elphick, but lacks his determination. Time for a change I think, and Virgo deserves his chance.

I dont think either goal was directly Tunnicliffes fault. Certainly the second one was in part due to having no left back.............and the gloriously fat, slow, useless Navarro being left for dead, after stupidly committing his fat body to the the tackle, enabling the Colchester player to have all the time and space in the world to put a pinpoint cross for Wordsworth to nod in.

For many reasons, that was my first game for some time. The first this season, and the first under Poyet, (unless you count the So'ton game on the TV).

I agree with a number of the posts above. The first 15 minutes, we couldn't get a kick. This is exactly what we did to Southampton. Colchester did it to us.

El Abd was injured and off the pitch when the first goal went in. He would have been the one to close their player down. Goalie didn't do bad. I was right behind the goal in the family stand. It cane through a crowd, he saw it late, and still got down to get a fingertip to it.
We still had only 10 men on the pitch for the second goal.

Once we were back up to full strength, we started to make an impression on the game. McNulty looks class, covers a lot of ground, and doesn't waste many passes.
Bennet looks exciting but could not quite deliver the end product?
Elphic had a storming game, Defending everything that came his way, in many ways coming forward and filling the "stopper" role in midfield.
After they had settled down, the defence looked pretty solid to me. No worse than the Colchester defence.
Brighton played as a team, managed to find each other with passes, mostly kept the ball on the deck, and didn't look at all bad. Everyone played their part. Singling out any player for praise or opprobrium would be unfair.

For the first 15 minutes we looked like a team down on confidence, waiting for the sucker punch.
For the last 15 minutes of the first half, we were the best team.
For almost the whole of the second half, we were the best team.

Colchester are lying 4th, and for most of the match, we matched them in every position on the pitch.
With a bit more composure, we would have won.
On the basis of this match, and the Southampton match on TV, I'm astounded that we are not higher up the table.

It was my 8 year old daughters first ever football match.
She called it the most exciting day of her life. (Perhaps a little bit of an overstatement)
She is gutted that we lost.
She said, "We had more nearlys than Colchester, we should have had another goal. It's not fair".

She want's to go again.
