Out of interest, do you agree that all inheritance should be abolished and anything you acquire during your lifetime should, upon your death, be passed to the state?

Thats a good theoretical debate, but in practice no. Being a head of state and ownership to the crowm estate lands is however somewhat different!

A wonderful day. All republicans should seriously take a look a USA or even France - is that what you want. Get a grip. Thousands of years ago Plato ( The Republic - the first political treatise ) had already noticed that the very people you do not want in power are people that want power. So at for at least one half of our system we don't have to worry about that, thank god.

I am not a sorry republican...

Like millions of others I have avoided all of this charade.

Bunch of crooks and upper class business millionaires. Sell them off to the yanks and spend the money on the people.

Tax them, take back fom them what belongs to the state and see them wither and disappear over the next few decades.

Cricket was fab today and a good crowd avoiding the mad parade.

The land issue is well understood by those who follow current affairs and in essence the question is who has true title to assets such as buck palace and the vast swathes of land in the crown estate which is the largest landowner in the country. You, me or the windsor family?

is that the same Crown Estate that, while belonging to the reigning monarch, is not their private property and pays all revenues to the Treasury? you talk about current affairs, you appear to be several hundred years out of date with the arrangement going back to 1760. Who owns it? the Crown, otherwise known as the state.

I'm loving all this bitterness from the anti royalist brigade. The best bit is they're so out of touch with majority. Plus they can't do anything about it! Except choke on grapes before they go sour!!!

If you think the land and royal assets value gss been bottomed out then you have not been listening to the news over the last few weeks. Further and like the khazakstani money issue ir the king who abdicatedcand then plotted with hitler, none if those !re the point. You are for meritotacy and elections or the divine right of kings. A civil war settled the later, but these days, cancwe just have a vote?

Um a law can be broken but no allegations investigated and/or proven! This howevever is moving off the point. You are a fan of a king and i a meritocracy. I respect your view and think most of the country is with you. B7t give us a vote and csncwe have our land held in the crown estate back please!

I must be as old fashioned as my views as I can understand your "Street" typing ie B7t and csncwe. I respect your views on this subject.

I know, bring back secretaries.. although these days they all seem to be called PA's! And i sir respect your views also.

Secretaries, birds in short skirts and low cut tops who sit on ones knee and take down short hand. Good for whistling at, calling darlin and making sexist remarks about. Bring them back. I must point out that our future Queen, kate, comes from a working class family so you can be proud of her Working class pride

I didn't get a chance to watch the wedding as I was working, but I am pleased that many thousands in London lined the streets to watch. Most of the royals, ignoring the odd prince and a variety of cling ons do an exceptional job for the country. Of course, being a royal has many benefits, but a lot of them work tirelessly. I do think Britain would be much emptier without them.

Kate who?
Im afraid PA's dont sit in the knee rhese days. I think the hr department and their employment lawyers would likely blow up in a ploom of smoke.
Quite right too obviously.

i read this week that less than 20% of the population are interested in a republic.

That suprises me actually, almost 1 in 5 has actually stated that they want a republic. I don't know if the vomit inducing media coverage would push that figure up or the publicity for all things royal would depress it, but that's a big number when you think it would probably have been 1 in 100 just one generation ago, so on that basis, one and a half more generations to go and orf with their heads!

So is all we have to do to ensure we have nothing to worry about is give all the power to one unelected upper class family whos ancestors had to be forced to take power as they really didn't want it, and our democracy will be safe. Erm, i think i can see a tiny problem with this, can you?

who's done that then? we certainly haven't in this country. our democracy, you know the bit where we elect our representitives, has been pretty good so far since full emancipation. even before that we had a more stable state and society (for all its problems) for over 300 years, than notable rebublics.

Gangsta seems to be saying that the only good bit of our democracy was the undemocratic bit, so why not get rid of the democratic bit completly and our democracy will be safe.

Well we all went up to London today and had a great time.

One thing is for sure - nobody does pomp and circumstance like the Brits. Quality.
