We do, most are under the tree but there is always one from both of us to each other on the Tree for New Year, it's like You don't know the Rules...

Absolutely, we always have small presents on the tree that we open after Christmas dinner, get with the scene Edna.

Indeed. Always thought Phil's best line was the Live and Dangerous introduction for Emerald.

"Is there anyone here with a little Irish in them ?" Crowd screams yeh. "Any of the girls want a little more in Irish in them?:)

Great album.

Saw them at the Dome in the late 70s, and the stewards were insisting that we all remained seated. But when, third song in, they started playing Emerald, the stewards conceded defeat and disappeared, and everyone stood up, surged to the front, and danced (or head-banged :) ).

Great album? For me quite possibly the greatest live album of all time. And I don't care about all the whinges that huge chunks were over dubbed later. Phil's great songs and the great synergy of Gibson and Marshall :)

Yes and agree with your later post - it IS one of the finest live albums of all time - Phil was a legend

Back on thread though

This track had an interesting vocal at the start(Maori apparently). I also loved the ‘try it on with surly Tonto’ bit at the end - wonder if they still play ‘maybe masked man he a ........’ now - probably not!

Beatles, I am the walrus

I am he as you are he, as you are me and we are all together
See how they run like pigs from a gun, see how they fly
I'm crying

Sitting on a cornflake, waiting for the van to come
Corporation tee-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man, you been a naughty boy, you let your face grow long

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob

Mister City policeman sitting pretty little policemen in a row
See how they fly like Lucy in the Sky, see how they run
I'm crying, I'm crying
I'm crying, I'm crying

Yellow matter custard, dripping from a dead dog's eye

Crabalocker fishwife, pornographic priestess
Boy, you been a naughty girl you let your knickers down

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob

Sitting in an English garden waiting for the sun
If the sun don't come, you get a tan from standing in the english rain

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob, g'goo goo g'joob
Expert textpert choking smokers
Don't you think the joker laughs at you?
See how they smile like pigs in a sty, see how they snied

I'm crying
Semolina pilchard, climbing up the Eiffel Tower

Elementary penguin singing Hari Krishna
Man, you should have seen them kicking Edgar-Allan-Poe

I am the eggman, they are the eggmen
I am the walrus, goo-goo g'joob, g'goo goo g'joob
Goo goo g'joob, g'goo goo g'joob, g'goo...

Here they are
The Beatles!

Which bit didn't make sense to you?

There she was just a-walkin' down the street, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
Snappin' her fingers and shufflin' her feet, singin' "Do wah diddy diddy dum diddy do"
She looked good (looked good), she looked fine (looked fine)
She looked good, she looked fine and I nearly lost my mind

If saw a woman walking down the street doing this, I hazard a guess she was on spice. Good looking or not.
Certainly wouldn’t make me loose my mind ffs, unless it was my mum.

If she was walking down the street, singing "Do wah diddy", wouldn't she be singing about a woman walking down the street, singing "Do wah diddy"? Sounds a bit circular to me.

Tis the season to get trolleyed....it can't be jolly, because over spending, over eating, relatives over, then it's all over, is not a jolly time for a lot of people

".......It cries for you
It's the least that you can do
Like a spiral on the wind
I can hear it screaming in my mind....."

Madman drummer bummers
Indians in the summer
With a teenage diplomat
In the dumps with the mumps
As the adolescent pumps
His way into his hat
With a boulder on my shoulder
Feeling kinda older
I tripped a merry-go-round
With this very unpleasing
Sneezing and wheezing
The calliope crashed to the ground

Some silicone sister
With her manager mister
Told me I got what it takes
She said, I'll turn you on sonny to something strong
Play the song with the funky break
And go-kart Mozart
Was checking out the weather chart
To see if it was safe outside
And little Early Pearly
Came by in his curly-wurly
And asked me if I needed a ride

Some brimstone baritone
Anticyclone rolling stone
Preacher from the east
Says, "Dethrone the Dictaphone
Hit it in its funny bone
That's where they expect it least."
And some new mown chaperone
Was standing in the corner
Watching the young girls dance
And some fresh-sown moonstone
Was messing with his frozen zone
Reminding him of romance

Just three bits from the fantastic ‘Blinded By The Light” ...

No idea what this is about.

Roxette - The Look

One, two, three, four walking like a man
Hitting like a hammer
She's a juvenile scam
Never was a quitter
Tasty like a raindrop
She's got the look
Heavenly bound
Cause heaven's got a number
When she's spinning me around
Kissing is a color
Her loving is a wild dog
She's got the look
She's got the look (She's got the look) She's got the look (She's got the look)
What in the world can make a brown-eyed girl turn blue
When everything I'll ever do I'll do for you
And I go la la la la la she's got the look
Fire in the ice
Naked to the t-bone
Is a lover's disguise
Banging on the head drum
Shaking like a mad bull
She's got the look
Swaying to the band
Moving like a hammer
She's a miracle man
Loving is the ocean
Kissing is the wet sand
She's got the look
She's got the look…

Now there's a word that I don't understand
I hear it every day from my old man
It may be Cockney rhyming slang
It ain't in no school book
He says it every time that he gets mad
A regular caution is my old dad
Rub the old man up the wrong way, bet your life you'll hear him say

Gertcha, cowson, gertcha
Gertcha!

When the kids are swinging on the gate
Gertcha!
When the paperboy's half an hour late
Gertcha!
When the pigeons are pecking at his seed
Gertcha!
When the barber starts digging up his bean
Gertcha!

Gertcha, cowson, gertcha
Bar stool preaching
That's the old man's game!

:shootself

Seems to make perfect sense to me.......

Someone left a cake out in the rain.
I don’t think that I should take it
Cos it took so long to bake it.
They might never have that recipe again....

Pedant Alert. Phil Lynott Ricky.jpg

Phil used Hiwatt amps, later on a Fender P bass and Dynacord (german) amps

I tihnk its well documented the guitarists generally used Gibsons and Marshalls though  kind of an industry standard post 66 when the Likes of Clapton/Beck/Page set the tone.

BoT . . .theres no shortage of bonkers stone nonsence in late 60's early 70's music

In the Land of Grey and Pink - Caravan

In the land of grey and pink where only boy-scouts stop to think
They'll be coming back again, those nasty grumbly grimblies
And they're climbing down your chimney, yes they're trying to get in
Come to take your money, isn't it a sin, they're so thin
They've black buckets in the sky, don't leave your dad in the rain
Cigarettes burn bright tonight, they'll all get washed down the drain
So we'll sail away for just one day to the land where the punk weed grows
Won't need any money, just fingers and your toes
And when it's dark our boat will park on a land of warm and green
Pick our fill of punk weed and smoke it till we bleed, that's all we'll need
While sailing back in morning light, we'll wash our teeth in the sea
And when the day gets really bright, we'll go to sea drinking tea

Octopus
Syd Barrett
Trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro'
You have no word
Trip, trip to a dream dragon
Hide your wings in a ghost tower
Sails cackling at every plate we break
Was cracked by scattered needles
The little minute gong
Coughs and clears his throat
Madam you see before you stand
Hey ho, never be still
The old original favorite grand
Grasshoppers green Herbarian band
And the tune they play is "In Us Confide"
So trip to heave and ho, up down, to and fro'
You have no word
Please leave us here
Close our eyes to the octopus ride!
