From the early 80s does anyone remember Space Monkey / Paul Goodchild?

I never saw them/him play but he was a face I was always seeing about around that time always dressed in black with his bleach blonde hair and eyeliner.

I think he had some minor commercial success.

Just discovered he died in 2020.. RIP

McDermott's Two Hours
Very active on the local music scene in the late 80s playing Irish influenced folk rock (around the same time and in a similar vein to The Levellers)

From their album "The Enemy Within"....

Bloody hell! Seen them several times, usually The Richmond and know the album well. Periodically I still see the vocalist Nick Burbridge out and about near St James Street.

Was talking about them with friends round tonight. The chat was about birmingham bands and my Eastbourne claim were the Mobiles and of course TopLoader
I was friends with Chris Downtons brother and used to be lucky enough to listen in on practice sessions of the band.
Of the new romantic era, but not too bad.
In essence nothing better than listening to live music.

If that is from the time frame stipulated.....pretty unpleasant.
Yes I was wondering about it myself and thought surely not, so I looked it up and discovered its a traditional folk song written in the early 19th century... so not quite the same time frame. Folk singer Shirley Collins sang a version in 1967.

So it's not a song about what I assume you thought it to be..... unless that was the reason the Copper Family decided to include it in their repertoire.... Manchester band The Smiths did after all sing a song called Suffer Little Children about events quite close to home which had happened only about 20 years earlier at the time it was released.
