Potter likes him, he’s not going. Solly also seems the type to want a managers arm around him, and that’s Potter.

Which is why I'm surprised Solly never put the whole package together, last season.

In all honesty I'd rather we didn't have the 20 minutes at West Ham, it just makes the frustration so much greater.

Out of interest, why would setting up the match-turning goal against Arsenal ( at 2:03 here) NOT ‘count’?

Probably a bit harsh but it was a simple ball across that he hit quite hard to Maupay. A few deflections later Dunk has bundled it in. Admittedly, he was part of the short corner but the lack of Arsenal defenders led to that too.

Plus maneuvering Pepe into the one place on the pitch he wants too shoot from, does rather question his LWB credentials.

March needs to produce more of this, I think most agree.

Pretending he hasn't contributed something that he clearly has, just seems a bit stupid (or agenda-driven).

I don't get hung up on the official 'assist' statistics. People get credited with an assist when somebody else's decent cross skims off their arse on its way to the eventual scorer. We all know who actually created the goal.

To ignore March's creation of that goal, would be as stupid as ignoring Alireza's (also not credited) assist, for the Watford own goal.

I think March is so poor that selling him to West Ham would be weakening a rival. See also David Button to West Brom - if they have to play him, they're weaker for it.

True this.

And if you include "secondary assists" (assist to the assist) in the PL era, it looks better:

When he plays with his confidence at a top level, he's a very good player, I just think he suffers with his confidence not often being high enough in his own mind.

Very good players at this level see 50-50 balls as 55-45 to them, they see them nicking in ahead of the defender, or taking the vital touch that will put them in space to cross, they see themselves taking such a good touch and move that every situation that is 50-50 is that 5 or 10% to them. I sometimes see him turning moments where he should have that 5% advantage into evens or for the opposition. That drive forwards into space his a cautious pass inside. I'm not expecting him to dance around players, but he needs more belief in himself.

At 26 he still has his best years in front of him. I'm never disappointed to see him on the teamsheet. I just hope that now he's reached that golden period for a footballer 26 to 30 years old, he can really grow that belief and confidence.

I'd be happy to write 'well he never did that for us', should Solly move on and become the player we all want him to be.

It's hard to see that level of consistency happening for the Albion.

I thought solly was going to be brilliant. My memory is a bit hazy but it was about five years ago. I remember March being brilliant when we beat Birmingham at the Amex it must have been 2015 because I seem to recall bobby scored first goal at Amex and if memory serves me correctly the brum kit was like Belgium. March was brilliant that day. Then a few weeks later he got badly injured (was it derby?) and his development seemed to stop. Hopefully this will be his season!
