[Albion] Solly to West Ham?

There are at least 2 current PL Managers that think very highly of Solly March as a player.

I can't remember the match last year but I recall Lampety being put into left midfield at the expense of Solly. When that happened I started to think that the writing was on the wall for Solly at Brighton.

So I am not surprised that certain clubs are showing an interest in signing him. I think the lad himself probably knows himself that he won't be a regular starter under the Potter/Ashworth Regime.

If Brighton get an offer it would probably be good all round for everyone if the lad moved on.

must be the covid effect but no one has offered to drive him there yet ...... my opinion he promised much a few years a go & has partially delivered but not to the extent many expected .... overall a fair squad player but not a first team starter so in that respect Albion could find an upgrade and move Solly on for a fresh challenge .. doubt they would sanction a rival bottom 12 prem team though unless offer was too good to refuse

Not convinced this is factual. Even so, can’t see Brighton accepting as he offers a decent bench option to cover WB and AM. £15M won’t stretch far to bring in a significant improvement to the first team. Another option for the bench maybe. But a sideways squad move not worth risking a player going out first.

£15 million got you Matt Docherty last week. Albeit with a fair bit of help from Jorge Medes. But still, there's definitely players out there for £15M that will produce better than Solly is currently

I rate Solly March and think he will still improve under Potter. Maybe not in the first starting XI but with the inevitable rotation / injuries / suspensions he is someone we want in our squad.

Gotta say we shouldn’t let him go, especially to a rival, unless we have already signed a replacement.

If we don’t bother to replace him I’m changing my mind

Would like to think SM does have aspirations for an England call up.

From what I've seen, hes a long way of but you've got to aim high.

If he has an exceptional season, then who knows. Good luck to him...

Those saying not fulfilled potential need to give heads a wobble .

Holding his own the premier league. How much higher you expecting ?

Be realistic

Solly is ok

As for someone also shoe horning in an AJ argument to this , what nonsense . Solly has shown plenty and contributed lots .

I was expecting him to be a regular starter for us scoring 5ish goals and maybe as many assists probably on par with say a Trossard. Early on in his career he showed such promise I thought we had a real player on our hands there were odd games where he would embarrass defenders and look a real handful. Those performances sadly were few and far between and he is now a PL utility option off the bench and I thought he was capable of more than that.

I am not in the get rid brigade as think he is a really useful squad player but I can’t shake the feeling for whatever reason he has not fulfilled his potential.

At 26 he’s in his peak career years, and he’s nowhere near the England squad!

He frustrates me, only because he can easily skin people on the wing, but doesn't and then cant cross. Not very helpful if you are a wing back. But he has looked more promising in the friendly games and hopefully getting some confidence back to do what he is easily capable of.

Tactics in the modern game rarely encourage anyone to take on a player. You’re 50/50 to lose the ball so more likely to be instructed to pass to a supporting player than risk taking someone on.

Solly is a decent squad player and I think he very much would have a role to play next season if he stayed.

But for £15million we should take the money and run. Even better if we could get a bidding war going.

Some people think we’re still in the Championship.

You can’t buy a ‘decent squad player’ for less than £15m at this level.

Would love to sell him for what is being reported. Tidy footballer and never has a mare but never excels either. Showed glimpses last year (assist against Burnley and coming on v West Ham) but that was about it (don’t claim the assist v Arsenal please). Can’t see anyone buying him though.

Out of interest, why would setting up the match-turning goal against Arsenal ( at 2:03 here) NOT ‘count’?

Very difficult at least.

Easy to forget that the work permit thing removes South & North America as markets, unlike in Spain and Italy etc where they can get nice, quite cheap quality players from Argentina, Brazil, Mexico etc. Makes it much more difficult.

Disagree. We bought Bissouma for that money, according to Naylor we only paid £16M for Maupay, we've been linked with pedraza for £8M who'd be a decent squad player, we paid £7M for Montoya who was a decent squad player, there absolutely is value to be found in players at less than £15M. I accept finding someone homegrown may be difficult, but there absolutely is the quality there

We also paid £15m or so for Locadia, and again for Jahanbaksh....
