What we do know about Gyokeres is that he forms a good partnership with Connolly.

My instinct is to not buy Solanke or any other striker you could term as a speculative investment in potential, as Gyokeres. If we find someone who is more than this and would clearly add to our matchday squad or starting XI straight away, get them in.

If we can't, give a squad place to Gyokeres (not sure if he needs one due to his age or not) and see what he can do.

The other moving part in this is Andone. The club will consider ... When will he be fit? Can he and should be rehabilitated into the squad? ... but I understand there's a thread for that

Its probably easier to improve a player technically, than it is to improve a bellends personality.

We may or may not be interested (I suspect not) but that's a ridiculous comparison: Solanke is a full England international, Ali Dia didn't even look like a footballer and played (i think) just 20 minutes.

"Full England intentional" LOL. He has received 1 cap as a 15 minute substitute? Technically you're correct, but Solanke is a complete and utter Donkey. Having 1 cap for England means nothing.

In general, we all need some realism in terms of buying forward players. Of all the PL signings in the last 2 windows, Maupay was the 2nd most productive in terms of goals + assists, only behind Bruno Fernandes. It is very, very hard to pick up a 20 goal striker and put him straight in the PL deepend.

More specifically, Solanke will be on decent but not crazy money at 22. That should not be a stumbling block. If we could do a Mooy style rent-to-buy option then wee should be interested. He has the attributes. But I did say that about Locadia! [emoji23]

All done under the Direction of Dan Ashworth.

This is all correct, and I am sure that the club will be looking at him but he's looked bereft of confidence for a long time. I know he finally got a couple over the last few games but he's a shadow of the player who destroyed the international youth scene. A year or two in the Championship, much like Abraham, and he could be flying again. But right now the transfer fee would be big regardless of relegation and a huge gamble on our part.

I don’t get the Solanke / Morrison comparison either.
Morrison is exceptionally gifted (Most talented Gary Neville says he’s ever seen) but a flawed character.
Solanke seems a decent Enough pro but big question marks over his ability.

Yes, but Ravel Morrison is 27 now. 6 years ago, aged 21, he was signed to Premier League West Ham and had played regularly for them and on loan at Championship Birmingham and QPR. It was around this point that the decline set in.

My head says absolutely no way, but there's that sneaky thought that we could be the beneficiaries of his late discovery of form. In fact, he could hit the ground running for us and score loads of goals, which would be hilarious in view of his struggles at Dean Court. Dan Ashworth will have some thoughts on that, no doubt.

Michael Robinson was seen as a failure at Man City but prospered with us. Could Solanke be the same?

No, probably not.

I'm wavering too. Laughed loudly at AFCPLB when it went tits up with him. But you'd think there is something about him still. He doesn't come across as a waster like the aforementioned Morrison. Just a young lad who's struggled to make his mark in a side that wasn't doing well. I do wonder, if the price is right, whether he might be worth a cheeky punt.

We've done OK out of another striker Howe couldn't get the best out of, to be fair.
