So, what has Poyet done so far?

-Got us a TV win against Southampton, putting many players in the shop window with performances that would seem to belie their current form (i.e. increased the price tag on some of our players for the managers/clubs that are too lazy/economic/cheap to hire a decent scouting system)
-Got us into the third round of the FA Cup.
-Brought in a keeper better than smith, who can take quite a bit of credit for our last four points.
-got us trying to pass the ball on the ground (which many fans were calling out for earlier this season)
-given us a name manager to set us up for the next transfer window, put us in a good position to attract some players who may see Poyet as a reason to come (this one is unproven as yet, but the theory is there)
-Helped the fans and the board see that the manager isn't the problem, hopefully leading to him having time and finances to build his team.
-Given the club a manager who has the chairman fully behind him.
Great post spot on,once he has started to bring his own players then we will see improvements, things take time but the cull has already started and more so in the close season championship players will be bought in ,all about staying up this season, the futures bright:clap:

Totally agree. :)

But this is exactly what was being said last season too!

Let's hope we actually see improvement to the squad in January

His tactical ability and knowledge is clearly superior to our last couple of managers. He makes good positive substitutions at the right time of the game.

Gus has also tried to play a settled team which makes a big difference.

Given the right resources Gus will work wonders. I'd like to say I am surprised that people are questioning his ability so soon but I am not. It's typical of our fans.

Keep the faith. Gus will deliver.

But he thinks El-Abd is his best defender.

He has been performing better than all of the others, hasn't he? He was excellent yesterday. Last man back. Putting in blocks. Closing down their wingers and so on.

The interview in the programme was good. He admitted that it is a challenge going forward as it is not on his natural side, but he has been working hard on both feet.

El-Abd does not get anywhere near the credit he deserves.

He's been a bit unfortunate having 2 games a week against mainly top teams. The first time he had a clear midweek the practice pitches were covered in snow.

Spot on. We played 5 teams in the top 8 of the league and arguably we were worth a point against Swindon and Colchester. His first match was against the form team of the division to boot. Thrown in at the deep end would be an apt descriptin.

No matter what manaager we get, Poyet, Ferguson, Capello? We will not achieve anything with the current squad and it's calibre!

Get the right players and we will progress!

100% faith with Gus Poyet!

Nothing what so ever apart from beating Southampton and picking up the odd point here and there, but what do people expect with the shower of sh1te that he has to work with?

Right, I figured the "polish a turd" argument would come into play. And fair enough. But Slade was given the boot, and the majority felt it was deserved as we were underperforming. Now though, everyone insists it's the players.

I'm not expecting miracles from Gus, but I'm not going to lie, I'm a little disappointed so far. Against Southampton we were brilliant. Murray and Forster looked class, the defence looked solid, the midfield were creating stuff. Can you really not polish a turd?

What Poyet has done since he took over is settle on a defence. Good, but it's no surprise the only clean sheets so far have come against teams who are also struggling.

What he's also done is insisted on a lob-sided midfield which hasn't worked. A bit harsh I know, but what are we into now, it's about his 10th game? And he's still experimenting with full backs in midfield. I know the transfer window is yet to come, but you'd have thought he'd find a decent stop gap solution.

He's had a fully fit strikeforce to work with. Something Slade didn't. And since his first game, they've both done bugger all. Disappointing.

He's gone very negative in games against "better" teams, and we’ve lost all of them. Against Leeds and Charlton we didn’t even have a go. For me, that’s no better than Mick McCarthy’s attitude. Only against Colchester did we look any good, and that was only after we’d gifted them the lead when our typically defensive start to the game failed miserably.

I’m not on Poyet’s back, I appreciate it would be unfair to judge his ability before he’s been allowed to bring in his own players - but from what I’ve seen so far, unless there’s a massive overhaul, we’re in big trouble, and I honestly don’t believe it’s solely the players fault.

Totally agree, this is not a moan just the plain facts.

Manager's first game in charge doesn't count. They all play like world-beaters for a manager's first game in charge. Them's the rules.

And on TV. It's not always the way with TV, but often a good team will wilt on TV and a bad team will step it up on TV. At least with lower league teams that aren't often featured.

The rules don't tend to apply when you're on TV every other week. The novelty of the cameras wears off.

El Abd is the sort of player we need right now as he has the right attitude and he listen and does what the manager wants him to i have always rated the lad, although lacks pace if the the central defender/midfielder do their job it isn't an issue ask Tank.
His key skills are tackling and reading situations in the game and giving the ball short ,what more do you want from a league 1 defender?

I am not questioning Poyet at all... this isnt his team and he came in at a very bad time. Seems we are playing better football.

The truth though is that we dont have a good enough team and yesterday's result convinced me that we are really in a relegation dogfight. We also have to accept that no matter how good Gus's contact are, the palyers he wants may not want to come to a League 1 in the relegation mire. The fault doesn't lie with Gus but it DOES lie with someone. How low we have fallen since 2005!!
