Playing 1 up front with Gerrard in behind won't win us f*** all either.

It's a better option than Rooney and Bent though. In the past Capello has used Defoe as a very effective super sub, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Gerrard play behind Rooney, with Barry and Lampard behind him. Cole and Lennon on the wings and that's a useful side. With Defoe being unleashed if/when necessary, I'm comfortable with that side

Indeed it is. Bent won't be in the squad though which removes that one. It'll be Crouch or Heskey with Rooney. I'm not a fan of leaving Rooney exposed as a lone striker to be honest , especially after such a good qualifying campaign with 4-4-2.

How did you figure that one out? Two of the best players in the world playing in the positions they both play for their clubs.

I've been a big critic of Gerrard in an England shirt but I firmly believe playing him in that position is the only way we're going to get the best out of him. Rooney will be brilliant wherever we play him.

That is defo the best midfield & front line we are going to get.

I do have major concerns over the defence & goalkeeper though.

I don't want Rooney on his own up front, however well he does it for ManUre he WILL just keep coming into midfield to pick up the ball (probably due to the shit service he'll receive) and leave no one up there. I'd like a striker who can play off the shoulder of defenders up there with him, nobody English does that better then Michael Owen so it's a bigger blow then people realise that he got f***ed up.

What I'd give to have a fully fit Michael Owen in the squad instead of Bent. Hargreaves is the other one I'd give my right arm to be 100% fit and in the squad

Amen.

I was watching highlights of the Portugal game from the last world cup, Hargreaves was TEARING round the pitch in extra time, snapping at tackles and beating players at will trying to get the ball into the box while Lampard and the rest just huffed and puffed around like all they could think about was picking up their next pay cheque. And he's meant to be the defensive midfielder!

Oh but don't worry, we've got Carrick this time
