So 4 goal Murray, but what REALLY matters is...

It's deeply depressing when you have to point out to people on NSC that you were actually being ironic. But thank you, Acker & MoH, for your support...

For all the others, the original post is really having a go at those who criticised Murray (in their eyes, a 'lazy northern sicknote') for not clapping the fans.

I actually think Murray is a very good player, who did all that he needed to do - ie score goals - when it really mattered.

Geddit?
Support?
No-ones supporting your claims, they're saying your opening post was meant to be ironic.
Were you at the match in question at Brentford?
Not saying it's a major issue, i don't really give a shit about it, but how can you possibly make this hilaaaarious ironic statement when you have no clue what even happened?
I think Murray is a superb player, but scoring 4 goals in one game doesn't prove it. He needs to start scoring consistently again, because if you think about it, he's only scored in 4 games this season, 2 of those games being against Wycombe.
As for scoring goals when it really mattered, what about when we were trailing to Swindon, or drawing with Borient?
As i've stated, i think Glenn is a talented player, and i want him to score goals for us for years to come, but that one game does not mean he's proven his critics wrong.

If Murray had been available all season, I would think we would be higher up the league. He has scored 9 goals in 11 starts and 6 sub appearances. Not bad for someone who hasn't played well this season.
so anyone done better than that from that few starts in any division this season? I doubt it, ffs, wind your necks in and start supporting the best striker we've had since Zamora anbd best we'll have all season most likely.
If the cap fits wear it.

What a ridiculous argument. I'd love to see him praised. I actually agree with the post that said he is the most talented player we've had since Zamora. So the praise I'd like to see him getting is that he is becoming a club great by doing it as often as Zamora did it for us, week in and week out, not just when he feels like it and when we're playing Man City in the Cup, Southampton on Sky, or the game before the window. OK?
I understand the sentiment but there must be a multitude of reasons why he is underperforming (because you're right, that is certainly the case).

Our entire team has been underperforming this season, to the point that a lot of people are demanding wholesale changes to the squad. Personally, I think he is one of about 8 starters who could just as easily turn into world beaters once we've cleared 4 or 5 players from the wage bill. Mind you, I simply don't want to believe that Murray turns it on for the big shop window games.

I think the shop window story is a myth, when Murray scored a hat-trick against Cheltenham last season it was in October. He is on a win bonus and a goal bonus too (probably).

As for the accusations made by some that he is greedy, anyone who saw him at Wycombe will point out that he could have scored 5, having muscled off their centre half just before the end of the match and was on an angled 1 on 1 with the keeper, but selflessly passed the ball across to Bennett instead of shooting himself, and Bennett messed up.

Some people seem to get a vicarious thrill out of us losing (I'm not including you in this BTW), and get more enjoyment out of them being proved 'right' in their assessment of the manager, board, individual players etc, than watching the Albion win, and I just don't understand such a mentality.

I don't really think you can tell, unless you know the player personally. It sounds like he's had his personal issues but they've sorted themselves out, and we'll see a different player once the team starts to gel.

But given that the January window is approaching, I'm quietly confident that if GP brings in the 3 or 4 players that we need, this 5-2 result could be to Gus what the 7-1 Chester MAULING was for Micky Adams. i.e. Fly up the table to a 9th place finish, and start next season as genuine promotion candidates with a brand new stadium round the corner.

I agree with you, they are not bad players, just not gelling as a team, and the defence is lacking a Morgan/Butters/Cullip style leader.

WE've just pilloried Fulham fans who had got onto Zamora's back, after seeing him mouthing his displeasure at them after scoring.

I hope people will remember that fact, and not do the same to our own, very talented player.

To be honest, if whatever those fans have done to Zamora this season our moaners can do for Murray, I'd take that any day. The bloke has responded and upped his game to a level where he is now terrorising defences like Man Utd's and Chelsea's. Who's to say that it isn't in fact the Fulham moaners who are directly responsible for his renaissance, rather than those saying 'just leave him alone and let him carry on playing crap' and blowing sunshine up his arse.

Often fans can see when someone should be doing a lot better. On occasions, the right policy is to put the arm round the shoulder. For others, they need to know loud and clear they are falling well short of expectations.
