So 4 goal Murray, but what REALLY matters is...

I think what he's saying is, let's not get carried away and suddenly think that Murray is the best striker in the division. He was bloody good yesterday, but we all know he can play that well when he is not injured/is interested/is in a good team etc. The problem has been consistency, ie the last game I saw him play anywhere near as well as that was Southampton. If Murray can play half as well as he did yesterday on a regular basis then he will be a great asset, but lets not pretend that he can't be abject for a lot of games. Lets hope he carries on in yesterday's vein for the rest of the season!

Was wondering when you'd crop up, let's face it, you weren't going to miss an opportunity to run through Murray's weaknsses!
You're right though, the problem is consistency.

But I haven't seen anyone get carried away - yes, it was a great performance, but Wycombe were turd, and we need more from him if we're going to stay up.

So now do you understand why people have a go at you when you 'belittle' other players in the squad? Murray has been as a guilty as any of the other players for this disaster of a season, you can't just pick and choose who gets slagged because you happen to like them.

No, you belittle players when they are performing shit, not when they've just scored 4 goals and won us the game virtually on their own.

If Murray had been available all season, I would think we would be higher up the league. He has scored 9 goals in 11 starts and 6 sub appearances. Not bad for someone who hasn't played well this season.

My only problem with Murray getting four yesterday, is that he now has to go 7 games without scoring to maintain his goal every other game average...

Oh I agree, my point wasn't about Murray. I happen to think he is a frustratingly inconsistent class-act (slight contradiction there I know, but you get my drift?)

My point was that WW has the cheek to have a go at other people slagging off the players when he is almost certainly the worst culprit.

I couldn't agree more on that. But there are a lot of people here who are hypocrites and forget the kind of things they say when it suits them. I think we just have to accept it.

1) The only people getting carried away are the sad cases like you who dislike Murray and jump to belittle his achievement as you can't bare to see him praised.

.

:lolol:

What a ridiculous argument. I'd love to see him praised. I actually agree with the post that said he is the most talented player we've had since Zamora. So the praise I'd like to see him getting is that he is becoming a club great by doing it as often as Zamora did it for us, week in and week out, not just when he feels like it and when we're playing Man City in the Cup, Southampton on Sky, or the game before the window. OK?

Please find an example of me being a hypocrite.

Thanks.

Who cares if he waved. Christ, what should matter is that he scored 4 goals in one match. But what does he get? People talking about if he waved to the fans. It's pathetic.

I agree...players have no responsibility to applaud fans but some individuals ( whose whole lives revolve around going to support their team ) demand this acknowledgement from the team. It is pathetic and small minded.
I was out the ground at the final whistle yesterday, like many regular fans I know. I saw Murray grab the match ball, which he thoroughly deserved and then I was gone. I didn't give a toss who applauded the fans who stayed behind.
By all means clap the team off but don't expect a round of applause back.
Anything you get from the players should be treated as a bonus not a God given right
It wouldn't worry me one iota if the players just shook hands with each other and disappeared down the tunnel but some idiots want a wave from the players, win, lose or draw.
Its as if they feel that their efforts in travelling and getting behind the lads must be acknowledged.
It would be nice if the staff at the local supermarket all lined up and applauded me out of the store, every time I shop there but it aint gonna happen. I don't expect it and I'm not disappointed when it doesn't happen.

No you're not.

It's deeply depressing when you have to point out to people on NSC that you were actually being ironic. But thank you, Acker & MoH, for your support...

For all the others, the original post is really having a go at those who criticised Murray (in their eyes, a 'lazy northern sicknote') for not clapping the fans.

I actually think Murray is a very good player, who did all that he needed to do - ie score goals - when it really mattered.

But do you travel 70 miles or more to you supermarket, stand in the cold/pissing rain in order to get what you need. Do you leave the supermarket knowing that the standard of products you bought may well be piss poor and not satisfy you, also knowing that the people who made them/served you are being paid many times more than you will ever be?

I'm not saying I get arsey when players don't clap, but I always get uncomfortable, and feel its overly simplistic, when people make broad sweeping metaphors about footballers compared to other jobs. It would be easier if we all accepted that playing football is not an ordinary profession (borne out by the high salary) and therefore there are a few obligations that come with it. Put it this way, if I had travelled to Carlisle, in the pissing rain, stod and watched Brighton turn in a terrible performance, I wouldn't think it unreasonable to expect some acknowledgement of appreciation for my efforts. Against Wycombe it may be a different story, but don't just lump everyuone and every situation in together in a poor metaphor.
