If i didn't want smoke in my clothes/face I'd go to one of a few other places in Shoreham where I can drink without it?? Thats being tolerant of other peoples choices - you are assuming that everyone wants the change?

I haven't even made up my mind as to which side of the argument I fall on.
However, I'm not convinced by arguments that are essentially "it's always been that way so we shouldn't change".

I agree with you but my way of dealing with it is to go somewhere else - not attempt to change an institution thats been around since before our grandparents...
If I made my local pub become smoke free - then about 5 or 6 old veterans (one who flew spitfires) would have no where to go - they all smoke pipes and are around 80ish (to hazard a guess) and they would probably sit at home and waste away...shame really jsut because they chose to smoke...

The bottom line is that common sense must prevail. I believe the decision should lay at the feet of the landlord. Then the people, not the government, can decide which pub to drink in.
I am uncomfortable with this increasingly nanny state we seem to be developing.
Next we'll all be micro-chipped so the government knows exactly where we are, what substances we take, our bowel movements etc. etc.

I'm not so sure - but I'm not willing to take away some peoples choice to do what they want however bad that choice may be - I believe that is dictating what people can and can't do - I chose to deal with it by not going there if I don't want my health to suffer...
