Smoking ban - something I didn't consider!

Thankyou for your constructive reply.
OK how about using illness that are more to do with ageing and not smoking as your argument, and if my contributions that go towards NHS funding are used for the illness you stated then that is ok with me.

Of course you enjoy smoking, you are feeding your addiction.

Inject heroin all you like, don't really care, just keep it to yourself eh?

At least if you did that you'd get all the help you need from the NHS to stop, unlike smoking.

Can those criticising the ban plase stop using the tired old civil liberties argument. You can still smoke, just not in the pub. This is ensure that there's a balance between your liberties (the minority) and those of the people that don't want to enhale your smoke (the majority). This is the point of the ban. All comparisons to other dangerous activities are pointless. If you want to drink lighter fluid or bang your head against a brick wall all day then feel free, enjoiy your freedom, no-one else will be hurt.

I'm a smoker and I could'nt give a damn about smoking being banned in pubs, clubs etc it's not a problem allthough I do think the banning of purpose built smoking rooms at work is OTT but what do you expect from this government. My gripes are if i'm going to be forced onto the streets to smoke then at least provide somewhere for me to safely dispose of my fag but, As it stands I've either got to put it in a rubbish bin or back in my own pocket to aviod getting a fine for littering the pavement, Thus increasing the chances of starting a fire either in the bin or my own trouser pocket! Also with banning smoking from the work place what considerations and help are the average employers giving to workers who are going to be suffering stress and withdrawal symptoms leading to a lower level of perfomance at work?

Do I have a choice (as a smoker) in contributing to the additional (on average) extra 15 years state pension you will receive, the hip replacement ops you,ll need, the cataract removal ops, the constant draining of Gp,s time, the "free" prescriptions you,ll constantly need, the 2-3 years stay in a Care-home before your heart finally joins the rest of your body in giving up,hearing aids,.............and finally of course, the last 6 weeks of your life which costs the NHS huge amounts of money, whether you smoke or not....?

Oh....and by the way.......I,m against the freedom of choice I,m losing.................but I have no real arguments about smoking in enclosed public areas, restaurants, pubs, etc etc.........
I really do know that smoking is bad for you.................I just happen to enjoy it.

Seeing as a non smoker is less likely to have to take time off work sick through smoking related illnesses no.

ha! The seatbelt law is for daft parents who forget that they are responsible for their childs safety....

I believe as adults we have the right (within the law) to do whatever we want, whether its bad for us or good for us...it matters neither (if its good or bad) as we have the right to chose ourselves. We also have the right to chose to go somewhere if we know that the smokikng will bother us....We have now lost that right...and I feel its sad...

It is disgusting I agree, not only are motor cyclists forced to wear crash helmets I bet it's only a matter of time before the poor oppressed peddle cyclist has to as well !

Oh the humanity :D

But I know non-smokers who have had all of those as well.

Sure but smoking rather increases the chances of contracting them and they also worsen the conditions too. Of course there's the possibility that a non smoker may have contracted their illness through passive smoking. An extreme but nevertheless valid example is the late Roy Castle.

However it is a scientific FACT that smoking increases the risk of such conditions. It's also possible (not saying it IS the cause, just that it's possible) that some of those non-smokers became ill through the effects of passive smoking, which is the issue that the ban is really focusing on.

Can setting fire to leaves and breathing in the fumes do you good? Of course not.

Dont get me wrong I know smoking is bad for you but sometimes it used as a bit of a cop out, If it was that bad then why do you still see pensioners puffing away on fags when according to most they should've been dead a long time ago? I bet there's as much heart disease caused by peoples lazy life style and over eating as there is by smoking.

Its not about civil liberties (what ever they are) for me its about being adult enough to choose where you want to go and the conditions where you go. You are intelligent enough to know that smoking and second hand smoking is bad for you, therefore you choose not to go anywhere where this occurs...but no - we're not adult enough to make that choice so we've had the government do it for us....

Why is that such a problem?...I'll tell you why - everyone is selfish....its about me me me....what happened to "I don't like smoking and so I won't go to a smoking pub I'll go to a non-smoking one!" no, not on your life, its "I want to go to this specific place and do exactly what I want without any respect for anyone else who may be doing what they want there...."
