Jeez that's a bit naff isn't it? I accept that this kind of commercialism comes with the territory we're now in but I'd have hoped the club might have held out for something a bit classier than that

Better than the Rugby teams who have sponsorship on the bums of the shorts !

Has it EVER been possible to buy a home shirt in churchill square ?

port-a-cabin at the goldstone

Amex shop

A few christmases ago the club had a pop up stall in Churchill Sq. That's about the only time I can remember our shirts actually being available there..

Not the most attractive logo but I really don't care. It won't make the slightest difference to the way we play.

It's great for those who love to criticise our shirt designs, though! It wouldn't matter what the logo looked like or who the sponsor was, they'd have their post written before the shirt was launched.

Tend to agree. People are already happy to walk around in garish nylon tops with a sponsor's logo plastered across the front, so stylistically I'd have thought that a couple of letters on the sleeve would be neither here nor there IMO.

And yeah, I admit to being old school and much preferring shirts without any obvious branding (like England national shirts or NFL jerseys), but as that ship has sailed for club strips I can't get too worked up about it (any more). Having said that I hope it doesn't go as far as Rugby Union shirts which are nothing more than walking billboards.

Where are the home shirts, per the question?

(I was about to post to this thread before I'd even seen your post that I didn't recall the popup store having shirts)

I think there is a rack with its back to us, in the top middle of the pic, next to the Monopoly boxes. Doesn't look they had many !
The article says they were stocked "A selection of merchandise will be available, including the home kit" but i can't remember so i don't know.

I can't believe we have WHORED ourselves out like this. This is just the beginning of companies treading all over the pure roots of our club.

I tell you what, I am not going to be happy this Saturday at the American Express Community Stadium. I will probably hold a protest during the added time sponsored by Watch Religion.

Quite right! Let's dispense with sponsors and make TONY pay for everything!

The Amex shirt sponsorship is estimated to be worth £1.5 million a year, not sure when it expires though, it was originally announced as a 'multi-year' arrangement. Probably a bit low given the current market conditions (a small club such as Palace, with new sponsors, is supposedly on £6.5 million, for example).

Sleeve deals are going for about 20-25% of the main deal, so that would give £300-400k, but I would expect the club to squeeze out a bit more than that.

Oh for the days when Skint sponsored us and our kit was "cool"

Easy to say as it's not my money, but the thought of allowing American Express to be outbid by 'chinese writings' would be a dreadful turn of events.

Of course we'd never be as cool as Skint, again, but there are still standards.

Oh m8, that is well sick innit.

Seriously though, I'm not bothered by it, I think some of you have become a little over precious since we won promotion tbh.

Looks fine, if it's extra money then so be it.

They must be doing OK, I read somewhere something about them being on the rocks but if they can afford to sponsor our sleeves then fine.

When you owe a few thousand you have a problem, when you owe millions the bank has a problem

My point albeit it badly worded was that the sales of a very popular shirt would cover the income of not having a sponsor....maybe.

Highly unlikely. £2,000,000 in sponsorship deals = £2,000,000 of free money.

To match that figure, at say £10 per shirt profit to the club (may well not be as much as that) they've got to sell 200 thousand EXTRA shirts.

Not happening.

Wow glad I got a shirt before that becomes standard issue.

'Supporters will be able to have the branding applied to their shirts for free from Monday 18th September*, either in the Seagulls Superstore at the Amex, or at the JD store in Churchill Square, Brighton.'

Really? Is anyone ACTUALLY going to go out of their way to do that???

I will but only because I don't wear the shirt merely get it framed and I'd like it to be as is worn etc.
