Still Somewhere in Sussex!
Had it a couple of times in the last few years too. Never knew what it was until reading this thread.
It really did scare me majorly, thinking that I wanted to scream out, and nothing came out of my mouth, and trying to move my body, feeling something was keeping me down.
My bouts also match up with being over-tired and stressed. So the key for me now is no stress, and ten hours sleep a night

Its nice to know that i am not alone. I was interested to hear that some of you say that you had seen things while this was happening. Well i had something happen to me one night that still frightens the life out of me and because of it i have to have the hall light on at night.
One night about 10 yrs ago i woke up unable to move then i lifted up through the roof of my bungalow and i was hovering about 30ft up. I looked down and i could see my car and even my cat sitting on the wall by my front door.
I vividly remember the very cold air on my face and looking over towards the downs, because the sky was getting light.
Then all of a sudden i shot off at about 100mph towards Worthing, skimming the roof tops. It was amazing, but i couldn't move.
Then i woke up and found myself in bed.
After getting my head together i unlocked the front door and there was my little cat Billy sitting on the wall by my front door.

I still cant explain it to this day, but i was so sure that it happened and no, i wasnt on any drugs.
Please dont laugh :O

Yep, very similar happened to me. As a kid this would happen now and again. My back would start buzzing and the hovering took me up into the corner of the room and I was looking down on me. Happened a few times and was quite weird/nice:rolleyes:. Freaked me out more as an adult. Once was hovering and flying over my house and then 'went' to my Sister's, looked down and she and my Nephew were looking up at me waving. After waking up, she rang me and said that she and my Nephew were both asleep at the time - sounds normal but I remember it wasn't a usual time for workers/school kids to be asleep (I was a student ). Anyway, at least there are at least two nutters on here. And no, I wasn't:smokin:either!

can be a good launch into lucid dreams....but i know who have suffered from it.

if you get a pressure on your solar plexus area, then you are in the astral realms my friends.....
the scientific answer to this is sooo lame, check out dion fortunes' pyschic self defence book and wise up to astral energies.

pm me for more info along these lines....i just helped someone out recently with this.

Perhaps this could be an explanation for the above...

Bit like what I had one Christmas except there was a Snowman with me.

...don't worry you are not going out of your mind. These are all normal human reactions! (just not talked about amongst real men).

Nice to see that 'real' men talking about these things can help others to understand they're not alone.

Anyway, er...see the match? Fancy another pint? Look at the t**s on that!

That sounds horrendous, my problem is getting to sleep, i just toss and turn 4 hrs with all sorts of things going through my head, got off to sleep about 4 this morning after going to bed at 10pm!

I was like that for decades, until recently. Now, I always read a little in bed, however late it is. Mr Hova just goes to sleep with the light on, so I don't have to put it on when I come to bed. Then, while I read, I nod off. At that point, I switch off the light and go almost straight to sleep.

WOw this is so strange. About 3 weeks ago this happened to me twice during a 4 hour nap. I didnt know what happened or even that it was called anything. Was the most horrific and scary experience of my life. My body felt like it was being crushed and pinned down. I could move my eyes and see my cousin walking out of the room to go upstairs (was watching tele) and as he went up the stairs I was thinking in my mind I need to cry out for help but couldnt speak. FInally I jolted myself forward enough and gasped for air. Terrifying!

only ever had it once. was having a nightmare and woke out of it, was then lying face up looking at the ceiling in my room. move my arm to get up and realise that i cant 'see' my arm moving anywhere (i can feel myself moving it around, but in my eyes im still lying in bed completely still). at this point i start to freak out and cant breathe properly and then finally i snap out of it and can get up.

scared the shit out of me until i found out it was just sleep paralysis........

I remmber as a kid, occasionally I used to wake up after a nightmare and start screaming. But i could never hear myself scream. It really is scary when these things happen.

I get this nearly every night, normally when I have just gone to bed. Have never been scared of it although I have tried shouting but nothing comes out, its a very weird sensation.

I used to get this quite a bit when i was younger between 10-20 i did however have one "episode" about 4 years ago ! Dr reckons it can be triggered by stress.
It is very very frightening when it happens.
