I was listening to the radio this afternoon and heard an old Slade song which suddenly sparked off memories. Can anyone remember seeing Slade perform a new song they were promoting before an Albion game in front of the North Stand? They were making a promo video which needed a singing crowd backdrop. Does anyone remember the record and which game it was before and when it was? I had a feeling it was before a Burnley game but not 100%.:guitar::whistle::mexican:

Do a search on here and you'll find a reference to it.

I was possibly there but far I was too young to remember (having been dragged along very young...)

My brother remembers it though....

I must have missed that one. I remember Norman Wisdom singing and David Bedford running around the touchline.

The song was 'give us a goal'. If you hunt around someone posted a YouTube link to it a while ago.

Amazing!!! I was at that game and remember Slade coming out, I seem to remember them getting quite a bit of abuse for being Wolves fans. Its been more than 30 years and thats the first time I've seen the video.

is it me or in that video was EVERY bit of Albion footage just a poorly passed ball that got intercepted or a poorly timed piece of defending? (i.e no actual class at all)

I remember the north stand chanting "your just a bunch of wankers" throughout their performance.

They actually chanted "You're just a bunch of wankers". and "You'll never take the North Stand"

But I was there. Weren't they perched on some rickety type scaffolding platform masquerading as a stage.

:afro:I bet those people calling them a "bunch of wankers" are the ones singing along when a Slade record comes on the radio now?
Anyone remember why Slade did a promotion at the Goldstone instead of Wolves?

Even in those days, pop was a fickle business. Just a year or so before and Slade were the biz but, by this time, they had become 'uncool' in todays terms.

Still, it's hard to beet a good bit of stomping Slade, shame they are not played more often.

Great to see the Goldstone, especially the North Stand. This was filmed before a match in Jan/Feb on a pretty cold day.

The crowd would have been about 16-17,000 so it gives some of you youngsters an idea of why the North Stand was such a magic place, a living, heaving, mass of people and just being a part of it was often better than the game itself.

This was just an ordinary game against mid table opposition so it just shows what the atmosphere was like. It's sad that those terrace days are a thing of the past.

They had a run where every release went straight to no 1.
The one at the Goldstone was later and was hardly a hit at all.

I knew a Linda from Coldean who was mad on Slade and was pretty much up for a shag to, so I'm told!
