I dunno what GIMP was commentating on the Wycombe Wanderers v Stockport playoff game yesterday evening, but about halfway through the 2nd half he came up with this pearler:

"An extra incentive for Wycombe in these Playoffs of course is that with Readings relegation earlier today, they'd have an M4 derby to look forward to next season"

1. You are watching a League 2 Playoff tie. Unless I've missed something, Reading have only dropped back into the Championship.
2. Wycombe is situated along the M40, not the M4.

Other than that, well done all round. Stick to the Premeriship, Sky. Its all you care about anyway.
Oh, and the other thing of note in this game was that Leon Knight came on as a 2nd half sub for Wycombe. Stockport equalised soon after. And yes, he was shite.

Have to take issue on a couple of things here Easy - you are simply assuming that football fans will drive - with the real drive to reduce our carbon footprint the following is worth taking into consideration.

You can take either the 800 or the 850 bus service leaving from Squirrel Lane and Edmunds Close which will actually take the A4010 (the Princes Risborough road) and make for Reading via Sonning on the Bath Road.

There is no requirement to have to use the M4 therefore negating your assumption that this would be either and M40 or M$ derby - you have fallen into the same trap that the guy on Sky did.

There is also a service that travels through Shiplake and Dunsden - not as regular as the above mentioned services but is an alternative route for those so inclined.

But you are correct in the fact that Reading wont be in the same division regardless as Wycombe.

But Easy - know your facts

Whilst I appreciate this additional information, I feel you are directing your perceived correction towards the wrong source. It was the Sky Guy who referred to a "potential M4 derby", not me, and regardless of the fact that there are indeed several alternate routes between Wycombe to Reading that do not incorporate the M4, the statement is still completely negated by the indisputable FACT that if you drive along the M4, you will not see a turning for a town called Wycombe.

Using this logic, you might as well call a match between Bristol City and Luton as an "M1 derby". Carbon footprints, bus timetables and RAC roadmaps aside, it is fundamentally and fatally flawed.

Seeing as we are being pedantic, you will not see a turning for a town called "Wycombe" anywhere in the UK as there is no such town.

Wycombe Wanderers play in High Wycombe.

I feel better now.

This, of course, is true.

Easy - you clearly stated though that (High) Wycombe was 'situated on the M40' - this was - in my view - the erroneous and misleading statement that led me to highlight why this particular urban spread could be exited towards Reading in a number of routes to Reading other than the M40 and M4.

For instance if Crowborough Athletic were to play Uckfield Town (unlikely these days I accept) would it be referred to as the A26 derby, the Ashdown Forest derby, the Northern Weald Derby - you see - limiting the description of the derby to simple main roads can be misleading.

Which major motorway would you say High Wycombe is situated adjacent to then Mr Trousers ?

(I've had some strange conversations on here in the past, but arguing the toss over where High Wycombe is has got to be up there).

You could always get the A404M and then you're only 2 or 3 junctions from the Madjeski Stadium. Then again, it don't matter cos they ain't going to be playing each other,
Premiership -1 = Championship
League 2 + 1 = League 1

The potential Wycombe v QPR game could be described as the 'A40 derby' though. Well it could be if QPR had been relegated.

If we play them will it be the 'A320 via the A281 derby'?

Does anyone know whether the A road route is well served by cycle paths?

This information could prove crucial to some although admittedly not to others(for example Little Leon) who might be told to get on their bikes long before any such competitive match becomes a possibility :)

Well I dunno about you, but I'm REALLY looking forward to the A23/M23/M25/A1/A1(M)/A15/A1139 derby against Peterborough next season.

You patently misheard the Sky man Easy, he was obviously referring to the potential clash between Reading and Derby in the Championship monster M40/M42/M6 clash next year. As everyone knows there is a lot of bad blood since the "High Wycombe" incident between the Royals and the Lambs.

*tsk*
