Good to know. I didn't sit down once at Swindon, it clearly wasn't designed for anything of the sort. I had no problem at Luton though, I was off to the left and I was quite near the front, only about 4 rows up I think. I'm a tall guy and usually I have problems when seating, but Luton was fine for me actually. White Hart Lane is a different story, it's a nightmare there. Crewe isn't pleasant either, I've been there the last 3 years, their seating could do with improving!

Another reason I love the Withdean, ample room for my unusually long legs.

I don't like some of the reactions from people in this thread to the Boro letter though, "football is going down the shitter". Could you be more dramatic? Just because the clubs are trying to enforce the no standing law and thinking of the fans who can't see when others stand.

You've answered your own question. The problem is that the law is ridiculous and hugely detrimental to the enjoyment of the game for many fans who want to stand. If the seating rule is enforced football matches WILL lose almost all atmosphere. Its all very well saying 'stay seated but carry on making noise' but we all know that that just doesn't work in reality. Whatever the biological/sociological reasons passionate support needs to be standing support. We have to protect the right that we still have (which is only a de facto right anyway) to stay standing. Until we have won back our terraces those who want to sit will have to make way.

If your not already then get on the forum of Stand Up Sit Down's website. Stand Up Sit Down

They are making slow progress in the fight to bring standing back, but more people are needed. If people are interested in some kind of campaigning then I am up for helping in any way I can.

Thanks for that btw. Will definitely be signing up.

You had me until "those who sit will have to make way".

That would make it a near perfect paragraph for me then, certainly a good argument.

I don't see any reason why terracing wouldn't work again, we shouldn't let one disaster spoil the whole thing. It should return, at clubs discretion. I see no reason why it can't, the law would have to change and there would need to be strict controls on how many people are let in, but it would be easy to manage and it would give back alot of joy to football fans, I'm sure attendances would rise again too. It makes more sense for clubs to reintroduce it, than to not.

Regarding Wolves issuing leaflets today, I don't know why they think it will be succesful as behind the goal (Jack Harris stand) everyone stands up, and the stewards don't even mutter a word, not even to the away fans who are standing when they are allocated part of the stand and not the Steve Bull stand.

Where do you get the idea you have a right to stand ? you have no rights to stand.
When buying a ticket to enter the ground=d you enter into a contract to abide buy certain rules. One of these is that is an all seater stadium you have to sit down.

I respect you decision to stand and understand that it enhances your matchday experience. but you do not have a right to stand.

I think you've missed the point - I think he means that currently amongst fellow fans there is a right to stand - ie. in general no one minds if you stand towards the back of a seating area. It's also the case that in many stadiums the stewards don't actually stop people in the away end from standing up so in that way I suppose there is still the possibility.

Wolves are handing out 23,000 leaflets at today's game telling fans to sit down.

FACT (not fiction).

Wouldn't be surprised if they do a leaaflet asking 'Please support and do not belittle Andrew Keogh'

Ok if that what he meant, then fair play, so long as it all a mutual decision,

Those standing do so at the back so those who choose to sit sit at the front.
But I'm not sure all supporters would be that considerate, Many i have seen just stand where the seat allocation is without any consideration for those behind them.
Today society's seem to breed a "i'am all right jack" attitude.

What are the stewards like at orient? I haven't been since they got rid of their terraces (and why on earth did they do that?)

I think it's league rules now, you have to have an all seater stadium, terracing is considered dangerous these days.

I should think the stewards at Orient are normal, they'll try everynow and then to encourage people to sit, but I doubt they'll be overly fussed. They're greatly outnumbered, afterall. So long as everyone is considerate and noone wants to make a fight out of it, noone will have any problems.

No, it's only the rule for the Prem and Championship. Orient was amazing when it had terraces.

Surely we should have a national stand up day where fans at all matches across the country stand up for the duration of the game?

PS I've changed the colour of your writing so we can read it.

I don't really understand why clubs would voluntarily change from terrace to seating though - surely you can fit more people in on terraces and also keep a lot of fans much happier. I know that once you get to Premiership you have no choice but it seems a bit odd until then to make the change.

It is a commercial decision , seating gentrifies the game and brings in spectators from the higher socio-economic groups. They are more likely to spend additional money on peripherals , ie refreshments and products available in a club shop. Terracing is seen as attracting the working class and the associated problems that go with it.

Don't get me wrong, I miss standing up at matches, my first experience of standing was at the Priestfield. My first match I stood at, and loved it for that reason, it has a massive pyschological difference to being sat down.

I think there would be a quite even split though, between the numbers of people wanting to stand and the numbers wanting to sit. Not on this forum, but then it's hardly a fair cross section of football fans, I think it's fair to say that the majority of people on this forum want standing bought back and I am one of them.
