darts is not a sport , its a pub game.

No, it a sport that just happens to lend itself to be able to be played within a small area, hence the pub participation, if pubs were big enough to accommodate a 5 a side pitches, squash courts, table tennis tables they too could be "games",

From Andy Fordham - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

At one point he weighed 31 stone (197 kilograms, 434 lbs) and was in the habit of consuming 25 bottles of lager before going on stage to play.

And that was when he was good as well!

Yep there is always one, yes he is a lager swilling fat bastard, every group of people have one that stands out. but what about Wade, you didn't mention him

Yes! Yes! Yes!

absolutely amazing. My mate was there and he said that grown men were actually crying after the 2nd 9 darter.

We went to the opening of rileys dart zone in London Road, and he was show boating, you cannot believe how good he is, until you see him that close up. Some of the stuff he was doing was breath taking, and that was just a piss about in a a club. To do it on the world stage infront of thousands is just amazing. I love how the crowd cheer after every dart goes in, and then the double gets hit and there is pandamonium!

Phil Taylor is an incredible sportsman.

Anyone who disagrees is a fool, in my opinion.

Competitive sport is all about pitting yourself against the rest of the world and coming out on top. Darts at that level requires a very high level of skill, dedication and practice. Just because he stands still, indoors and doesn't run around when he's playing, doesn't lessen his achievement. He has been at the very top of his sport for years and despite the efforts of many people to knock him off his perch, he's still there.

Brilliant.

And also, if anyone dismisses the achievements of Chris Hoy as 'someone who can ride a bike a bit faster than anyone else', then they know very little about sport.

So? On that basis you'll be knighting Alex Revell and Andrew Crofts. Surely TALENT should have something to do with it? And sorry, but riding a bike isn't a talent, it's a basic human ability anyone from the age of 2 can do.

These people are pushing the performance of the human body to the very limit and yet you see fit to diss them, quite incredible. Usually your comments about people who kick a ball around for a living are fairly laughable but this surely takes the biscuit.

I suppose Usain Bolt is a joke as well after anyone with two functioning legs can run, what's all the fuss about?

The English are brilliant at sports that can be played in pubs (darts, pool, snooker) and sports that involve sitting down (formula1, cycling, horse racing, rowing). So why knock it?

Every other sport we are shit house at, apart from cricket at the moment

Because with the exception of rowing and cycling the rest are pointless

I'm going to set myself up as the fool then.

Having a level of expertise in something does not make you a sportsman. I could be expert at slamming my cock in a door, the best in the whole world, it wouldn't make me an incredible sportsman. Darts, at the end of the day, is not a sport. He's got incredible reactions, and great hand-eye coordination, but he's not partaking in a sport, he's taking part in a game.

Great, devoted man? Yes.
Great sportsman? No.

I have never been taylor's biggest fan but I was there last nite right by the stage. Watching him complete the 2 nine darters followed by a 10 darter was amazing. watching it happen that close up you really got the feel of the man's dedication and what an amazing talent he has for the game. I dont think it matters what sport or game it is you have to admire anyone who can perfect their chosen game to that quality.

Now I'm off to get my 4 hours daily practice of snap.

Really not understanding some of people's opinions here. Surely if you are the best in the world at a sport that everyone can do, running, cycling etc. then you have to be considered in high regard. Darts is a more specialised sport which not everyone has done/played and therefore is easier to win.

To compare someone like Usain Bolt or Chris Hoy to Phil Taylor is absurd. They have reached the top of their field in a sport that everyone has done. I ran at school and rode a bike, but i never played darts.
