My question about this is what happens when the election comes? These aren’t popular backbenchers crossing the floor, they’re rats leaving a sinking ship. Is their association with a desperately unpopular Tory government actually going to harm their election chances in those constituencies?
I’m aware one of the fellas is stepping down anyway, but what about the rest?

The answer to your question is 'yes ' the system can cope with it because (if you pardon the term) it's a drop in the ocean against the 'controlled legal migration ' we do have.
It's easier to process in say france than it is to deal with claims by boats. If there are legal routes then it has 2 effects..one being to break one part of the small boats model and two, allows a position which is legally accurate that having not sought legal routes the action is then illegal. It isn't correct in international law to say people arriving on small boats now are all 'illegal' as there are no legal routes.
Return agreements will be harder because some idiots believed being outside the eu was easier to control migration than being in it. But it's not impossible

As a labour party member I am uncomfortable that elphick has been welcomed. It seems weird that we have a party that doesn't have diane Abbott in it but we do have Natalie elphick.
Having said which, there are many other labour party members I disagree with and have to accommodate them.
She won't be standing in her seat. I'm not sure she can stand anywhere else. So it's a short term factor for me to deal with.

Starmer has done this for the lols clearly. I kind of get that trolling the tories on this level must be fun and must be hugely painful for Sunak.
But all this makes me think. Do I trust that Starmer has the leadership nous to lead the country?
The sort of leader our nation requires, needs an instinct for judging the mood. To head off these sort of issues before they arrive.

It’s a vote winner. Abbot is not popular. Labour getting this woman is an indication that the Momentum days are over and the right are as welcome as the left. I have no idea what this Labour government stand for but tactically it’s a smart move from them. I really do believe they’re going to absolutely dominate Tories in GE this will be one of the most dominant wins ever.
