The CPS didn’t prosecute HMRC cases.
No doubt you’re right but this instance would be like an airline pilot riding a pushbike, Sir Keir is so over qualified to deal with this.

Even if he isn’t - the Labour Party legal team make the assessment and then the leader can come out and categorically support the deputy leader.

Political leaders don’t make categorical statements about police investigations especially repeat investigations. It’s wisdom. The Daily Mail threatened to publish a child’s birth certificate without any regard to privacy or safe guarding.

This happened with the campaigning in Durham, when they were cleared but the Tories decided to waste police time by insisting on it being re investigated but cleared again.

Is it possible to just debate the facts without this constant sniping?

She was cleared by the police in March, according to the Manchester Evening News, but Daly is insisting they reopen the investigation.

So if there’s found to be no case to answer (again) will the Mail pick up the bill for wasting police time or will taxpayers have to fund their latest whim?

I've briefly read about the reopening of the case

It seems the police didn't even speak to the neighbours about it, surely that's a pretty basic line to investigate?

There was always going to be come back to this, you would think they would do everything before shutting it in the first place.

The police have been frightened into action by a whiney tory, fearing a backlash if they don't.

From my view from a hill, it just makes the Tories seem petty and vindictive, and they will back off like a slug near salt when it is dismissed as bollox, claiming they have contributed to due process....while adding that there remains no smoke without fire.

Wankas.

The police don't have the resources to investigate simple and obvious crimes, and yet, this? They are now a plaything of their chiefs, who are eying their pensions. And thus we cross the rubicon....

Angela Raynor Hoo-Ha.

Firstly , let’s be clear no amount of negative media coverage of this subject is going to affect the result of the next general election, we have a Labour government in waiting and virtually nothing can change that. Sir John Curtice has said that if the 2 biggest polling swings in history for 5 year parliaments were both matched and added together we would still have a Labour government.

So enough of the bed wetting over the mythical powers of the Daily Mail !!

The key in the Raynor case for me is that Sir Keir Starmer has repeatedly said that he has not seen the legal advice given to Raynor…. No matter which party you are from if your leader says that you are likely screwed.

If … big if … but if she is guilty the smart move would’ve been to play the scenario through to the inevitable end - then realise the best action would be to hold her hands up to a very minor misdemeanour, pay back tax - step down as deputy leader and take a position in cabinet at the first re shuffle in 2025.

If she’s not guilty … how about you show the extremely qualified lawyer Sir Keir Starmer the legal advice and get the next PM of the UK to stand your corner🤔

Are we sure that the Labour powers that be are not the ones who’ve thrown her under the bus here? Yeah yeah it’s the tories and the all powerful daily mail but let’s face it she’s the last of the left on the front bench!

It raises questions about the competency of Sir Alan Campbell because you can bet your bottom dollar when Rosie Winterton was running the whip’s office she’d have got to the bottom of it quicker than this and either forced Raynor to step aside or more likely forced SIr Keir to publicly back her and put it to bed. And she’d have done it at the top of her voice !!!!👍
It's a bloody council house up north which will have far lower tax liability than the random crap that most of the government MP's have siphoned off. If she was that worried about CGT she could've found loads of ways around it (admittedly more complicated) but easy enough to do if you're that bothered about paying tax intentionally.
If she has tried to avoid a little bit of tax, I'm not happy about it or think that it's fine to do so, but there's a huge difference in the amount of tax avoidance between her and the current bunch of government MP's that have 'avoid tax' as their middle names.
As far as I know (I may be proved wrong) she hasn't given billions of pounds worth of contracts to her mates she used to go to school with, something tells me she won't give billions of pounds worth of contracts to the mates she went to school with either. I think the difference between between 'It's who you know, not what you know' becomes very obvious when you see who contracts are given to from the current government.
I don't know what the policy for sacking her is, if it becomes crystal clear that she did it on purpose, she should be sacked.
I vaguely remember a time when John Major was sleeping with Edwina and that was a 'scandal'. I'm aware that Johnson isn't in government any more but no one seemed to care that he was unsure how many kids he has.
I'm certainly not going to sit here typing away being moralistic about 'family' values as 'family' means lots of different things to lots of different people. It just strikes me how different things are that we were annoyed about an MP having an affair 40 years ago & now we accept the ex Pm not knowing how many kids he has, and the current PM's wife avoiding shit loads of tax, while gunning for someone who may have saved a pathetic amount in tax on a council house in comparison.
Our current PM was fined due to ignoring rules that were made whilst he was pretty high up in the government chain. Now there's a new Criminal Justice Bill going through, the one 20 years ago was to stop raves, this one is very different.
Forgive me that my top concern about the incoming government isn't about a council house that was sold for £128k.

The shills are out in force on X, posting merrily, that as Andy Burnham is PCC for Manchester, Rayner has already ‘got away’ with it.
Thereby, sowing doubt on her innocence no matter what the outcome. Who remembers Jeremy Hunt, and his flats? He didn’t.

What could possibly go wrong here?

Ms Rayner said because housing plans were "not up to local communities", this led to "some of the challenges we face".
"Communities are absolutely right that not only do you need the homes but you also need the infrastructure as well," she added.
"I will force local communities to come up with a local plan about 'ok, how are we going to provide the houses that we need locally'. They will be part of forming that plan."
