[Politics] Sir Keir Starmer’s route to Number 10

Angela Raynor Hoo-Ha.

Firstly , let’s be clear no amount of negative media coverage of this subject is going to affect the result of the next general election, we have a Labour government in waiting and virtually nothing can change that. Sir John Curtice has said that if the 2 biggest polling swings in history for 5 year parliaments were both matched and added together we would still have a Labour government.

So enough of the bed wetting over the mythical powers of the Daily Mail !!

The key in the Raynor case for me is that Sir Keir Starmer has repeatedly said that he has not seen the legal advice given to Raynor…. No matter which party you are from if your leader says that you are likely screwed.

If … big if … but if she is guilty the smart move would’ve been to play the scenario through to the inevitable end - then realise the best action would be to hold her hands up to a very minor misdemeanour, pay back tax - step down as deputy leader and take a position in cabinet at the first re shuffle in 2025.

If she’s not guilty … how about you show the extremely qualified lawyer Sir Keir Starmer the legal advice and get the next PM of the UK to stand your corner🤔

Are we sure that the Labour powers that be are not the ones who’ve thrown her under the bus here? Yeah yeah it’s the tories and the all powerful daily mail but let’s face it she’s the last of the left on the front bench!

It raises questions about the competency of Sir Alan Campbell because you can bet your bottom dollar when Rosie Winterton was running the whip’s office she’d have got to the bottom of it quicker than this and either forced Raynor to step aside or more likely forced SIr Keir to publicly back her and put it to bed. And she’d have done it at the top of her voice !!!!👍

Not interested in Rayner allegations at the moment.

Far more interested in Starmer’s pledge to defence spending, which I very much welcome. With Europe not-quite-but-almost on a knife edge we can’t be so complacent.

NHS and defence spending and efficiency thereof both have to massively increase.

I guessed as to who may be bouncing this thread, but only got two out of the three

Desperate for something, anything to actually avoid reality :lolol:

Desperate for any type of good news from the last few years even Potentially good news of getting back to where we were :lolol::lolol:

And i'm so desperate all I have left is the 'They're all the same' claim :lolol::lolol::lolol:

Sorry guys, but I'm afraid you only have two hopes of your preferred cabal staying in power and Bob is long gone

Nope, I know Starmer is going to be elected, going to be interested in how he copes.

My post was more to do with Starmer being incapable of being anything but negative about any news involving the Tories. You’ll understand that

She was cleared by the police in March, according to the Manchester Evening News, but Daly is insisting they reopen the case
Tge solution is so simple it beggars belief that it hasn’t happened yet…

Joint statement from Sir Keir Starmer and Angela Raynor:

SKS “We are today publishing the legal advice given in this case , I myself have seen the advice and can tell you as a lawyer that there is absolutely no case to answer and that as leader of the party I categorically have 100% faith in the deputy leader.

Story over…….unless??

He might have been a lawyer, but I'm not sure that Starmer has any particular experience in tax or property that would make his opinion worth all that much.

You don’t get to be head of the Crown Prosecution Service if you can’t get a grip on an extremely simple case like this

and probably not appropriate when a Police investigation is ongoing
…and how about before the police investigation? ….. meeting between Chief Whip, Leader if the Opposition, Deputy Leader, Party legal team ….. let’s get out in front of this before the media chime in - publish all evidence and make categorical 100% support statement….. then you can say nothing to see here let’s move on

Of course the story is not " over ". The Tory government is probably going to have the worst election result in about 80 odd years. They and their client newspapers and think tanks are going to try every lie and deceit they can in order to mitigate the scale of the defeat.

Expect any controversy regarding Rayner to magnified to the nth degree in order to deflect from Tory corruption and try to label MP's as " All the Same " when quite obviously, Tory scandals are 10x worse and more frequent.

I’m confident that from day one of the New Labour administration and going forward there won’t be anymore Government scandals and NSC will once again become a peaceful message board where we all get on and silly falling’s out amongst our fellow supporters will be a thing of the past.

Tory High Command seem truly desperate to deflect eyes away from any higher-up who may be implicated in the Wragg scandal.

The lid has been kept on that for now.

I don't think Starmer can actually sack a deputy leader, can he ?
You're right of course. But the media have largely been ignoring Labour of late, and that's about to change if it hasn't already.
They'll start to claim that their role is to hold power to account, conveniently forgetting that they've forgotten to do that over the past 14 years when what was in front of them was seven shades of shite

No, nor should it if SKS deals with it properly IF she is found guilty.

But I'd quite like all MPs to be held to the same standard, if she's done wrong she should go, Labour have (and rightfully so )called for Tory MPs to go for being found guilty of numerous (I've lost count of how many) same should apply to her.
There's a better route: she can announce that she'll resign if the investigation establishes that she's done wrong. My hunch is that she hasn't, but that won't be the end of the media targeting somebody for having the gall to be working class and a woman.
